Delta New Hires/Class Dates/Cleared to Train
#371
I realize that my comments will draw ire from some, but here goes. The 88 is easily the biggest turd I have ever flown. It is a sloppy airplane that is trying to be something it cannot be. I will say that it is a comfortable and reasonably quiet airplane, but those 2 qualities are not enough to overcome the myriad of reasons that it still sucks. Couple its $hityness with the awful trips and now you know why it is the junior airplane. If I had my choice I would not fly it unless you did not want to commute or had some other overriding QOL concern.
I have not flown the 320, but I have hitched a ride up front and it was very quiet and looked quite comfortable and easy to operate.
just my opinion folks, try not to burn me at the stake.

I'm like Beer. Got hired into the ER, then got displaced to the MD88.
Like everyone says, the 75/76 is very hard to beat. With that said, I like flying the Mad Dog. There are no computers or hydraulics between you and the controls. You can close your eyes and know exactly what the airplane is doing. In that aspect, it's a very honest airplane.
The worst thing about the plane are the trips. 5-leg days, 30 hour layovers, and if you're ATL, very little west of the Mississippi (although I hope that changes when everyone converts to the -90). The only good thing about the trips: No red eyes!!! At least not in ATL, although get used to 0530 departures.

There's an old saying "Boeing builds airplanes, McDonnell Douglas builds character!"
One thing that can effect the way you feel about a particular airplane is whether you bid it or were displaced to it..........

I have also noticed that lately a lot of the captains on the 88 are miserable to fly with. I call them "b1tchers" cause they b1tch about everything, the company, the union, anything. I just usually sit there and listen but on a four day a few weeks back I finally couldn't take it anymore and on the last layover I ditched the guy and went and had a few quiet beers to myself. Seems like the ER guys I flew with were a lot happier.

Please let DL hire again soon. Movement is good for everyone.

Of course it could be worse, but I did my time at the regionals (8 years), so I think I have earned the right to ***** about the 88.
