Oh well, that's the airline biz. i'm sure a lot of ATA/Pan Am/Eastern/TWA/PeoplExpress/Braniff pilots were extremely disappointed too.

The point is this - if you are combining 2 teams and want to have equal fairness and can name numerous, substantial benefits for only 1 team's benefit and can't name a single item that benefits the other then there is no fairness. It has to be fair and equitable for BOTH. Sure, there will be some disappointments on both sides but I think we will have some smart people working on this to make it work out. We all know that you don't walk into a car dealership and say "I'd like to pay full price for that new car please." So there will be posturing on both sides - that is totally expected.
Answer me this about seat position - What if SWA acquired an airline that had only started 2 years ago? Would those Captains keep their seats? According to your logic, it sounds like your answer might be yes? What if we acquired a commuter? Don't get too excited now - I'm not saying Airtran is close to either of these. Just saying seat position is not a black and white issue - it is a gray area just like everything else. Training is going to be very busy these next few year - that is a LUVely thing at SWA for all regardless of "personal" outcomes.

It ABSOLUTELY has to be 'fair and equitable' to EACH pilot group. That's the whole point of it.

From: DOWNGRADE COMPLETE: Thanks Gary. Thanks SWAPA.
You assume I work for AT and assume I have SLI expectations.
The ALPA and SWAPA unions will look out for their own as they should.
I am discussing no expectations. I am currious what the big deal is. If it is pay I am just offering some options to lessen the upset.

First, of all you do work for AirTran. Second, and by far most importantly, you don't even come close to representing the viewpoint of the vast majority of our pilots. Third, quit offering up "options to lessen the upset". Fourth, thank you for serving as you have pointed out countless times, but frankly that doesn't give you carte blanche, so may I politely ask you to(insult deleted)
Thank you. Now back to our regularly scheduled program of arguing over which color is better, blue or green........... I mean arguing over who "deserves" what in this SLI.

Don't believe me...read the brief prepared by the MN House for an overview of the Delta/NWA merger in June of 2008.
http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/hrd/pubs/airlinemg.pdf
It's the whole rationale behind being able to appeal the RESULTS of a SLI process and not the process itself.
