I was personally encouraged to see that. That it has strings attached to it for 48-months and can be removed at a moments notice takes some of the luster off.

For the Mesa pilots on property - does this pay increase make up for the QOL deficiencies?

I personally have no QOL complaints. Super efficient schedules make it easy to get 14-16 days off on EJET. From what I understand CRJ is not so lucky. Basically no reserve as FO. If you’re a lineholder just don’t answer the phone and life is great. Pay has always been the problem.

Now training and actually getting to this point is a whole different matter. But now that the instructors and Check Airmen are being paid that may change as well.

Two questions:

What do you think in a QOL deficiency at mesa that doesn’t exist at other airlines?

Second: what QOL deficiency would be made up for with a higher salary?

Certainly every airline has their own QOL shortcomings.

For one example on the QOL side: Non-Commutable lines could be helped out by higher pay (i.e. one can now afford a hotel room and be better rested prior to clocking in the next day).

But I don't work at Mesa right now, and don't know what the biggest QOL issues are.

What is the hourly override for instructors? TIA

From 8/1/22-2/28/23, Observations/Checking/IOE event will be paid as follows:

Hours 1-70 will be paid at a 50% override.
Hours 71+ will be paid at a 100% override. The 100% does not retro for hours 1-70; only for hours 71 and above.
If you do jump seat observations, you will continue to be paid per event at the 25% override announced in July.
And…if you observe from the jump seat but also do check rides, observation hours will be counted toward getting the 71+ hours!

For sim instructors it’s min 5 yr Captain pay rate plus a bonus. I’m not really sure how exactly it works tbh

I don't work at Mesa and am relying on current pilots to share their thoughts and opinions on perceived QOL issues. But point taken that each airline will have their own QOL shortcomings.

Commutability of lines is one example. With better pay, one can afford a hotel room if they need it on the front and back end of a trip. Not all QOL issues would be solved by pay. Some would just be more "palatable". What are some of the most common gripes amongst Mesa pilots as it relates to QOL?
