And yet, things are positive.

There's too much going on now to make any valid predictions ya'll:

1) People constantly upgrading, cleaning out the FO ranks with the exception of PHX/CLT lifers
2) LAX & DFW opening, ORD & CLT closing, 20 planes moving ORD->IAD
3) IAH EJet base consistently expanding with possibility of EJets in ORD
4) We're somehow still filling classes and upgrading like crazy, but if attrition picks up in the CA ranks, they might go so deep on the seniority list they start hitting the guys with <1000 hours 121 time.

If we start having street upgrades in IAD this Fall, new hires there will be in the strange position of losing relative seniority in base b/c the guys below them are leaving.

All I'm saying is this whole picture is too blurry to predict anything for anyone, and you should have low expectations and eyes wide open in this industry, especially going into 2015.
Well said, it's too early to tell how these base closures are going to effect seniority at the bases that are open. Who will leave? Commute east or west? Just way to early to tell.

Productive long haul trips equals more pay in the wallet. I don't know how long it would take to get from Houston to Canada in a 175, but I imagine you couldn't fit more than one leg per day without timing out on the second. So it sounds like 1 or 2 legs per day, great block times and less hassle than you would have with multiple cities.
Yes, I have been doing IAH-Toronto turns this week. 7 hour blocked day trip. We get Edmonton, Calgary, Hartford and a shorter OKC. on Aug. 15th I believe. We still have the shorter AUS and MSY right now. But unless they throw SAT on us that should be it.

Just like the saying, ones man's trash is another's treasure. The massive displacement will be good for some but guessing the senior people in CLT will have to endure the pain that the PHX people did the last 3 years. The full base closure of CLT is massive.

Well, yes, the base change is positive or negative dependent upon one's perspective. But just the fact that there's hiring, there's growth, there's positive outlook and stability. Those didn't exist when I started flight training. Pilots and furloughees instructed five years waiting for the recession to turn around just so they could finally get the chance to be a regional FO, or to be an FO again. Puts things into perspective.

Yeah, this is how the regional biz is. Constantly changing. I have seen IAH open then close. ORD and IAD were two large bases now small. Now ORD gone IAD grow. PHX explode in size and CLT dwindle. Then PHX shrink and CLT grow. Now CLT gone PHX grow. And LAX and DFW open. IAH is back. And for you new folks that's just in the last 7 years. PS. Don't forget about the Delta contract and Beech 1900 musical chairs. Hell if I went back the full 9 years since DOH, it would take up an entire page on base closures, openings and size changes.

Anyone have a guesstimate of current attrition rates?

I know it sounds outlandish, but I keep being told more 700s for AA out of DFW.

Seems nuts to me, who wants 700s in the day and age when passengers hate the CRJ, and other people are only getting new 900s and 175s.

This rumor is second hand from JO.

Anyone talk to senior management at the road shows this week?
