There were guys downgraded in the Dash 8 in PHX to FO who were able to bid CRJ CA, but they did not have the seniority to do so, so it was never noticed that it could be done. In this case you have the seniority.

Two times while I was displaced, I displaced into the ERJ as Captain, and then displaced into the CRJ as Captain, with no seat locks what soever because it was not by choice via a displacement. So the company cannot keep you as a CRJ FO if you have the seniority to upgrade to a higher status/equipment aka the Ejet
Sorry to beat a dead horse to death, but just to be clear--you are saying that if a current CRJ CA voluntarily downgrades to CRJ FO in a domicile displacement, when he could've held CRJ CA in another base, and could've remained a CLT CRJ CA, he can then turn around and bid EJet CA on the next EJet vacancy?

I heard the same. Possibly 20 more CRJ 700's in DFW. Take it for what it's worth right now...a rumor.

The simple answer is yes. You got it.

However, lets not use the word Voluntarily downgrade. It makes it confusing. You have a choice when you get displaced.
You "choose" to move to another base as Captain with what your seniority can hold, or "choose" to downgrade to remain in your base because your seniority can hold that. Thats number one and number two in the contract under domicile displacement/reduction.

As for the Voluntary vs Involuntary, we have to be careful discussing this. It means only two things in the contract in a displacement. You were too junior to hold your status so you were involuntary displaced, or you Volunteered to displace in place of the junior guy so the most senior junior guy that would have gotten displaced won't now. By bidding VOL displacement you are putting your self in the position now to "choose" either to change bases and retain your status, or you "choose" to downgrade to remain in base. You had to make a choice between the two, so you didn't Volunteer for either, rather made a decision. You Volunteered to Displace (earlier and in place of another pilot) to be able to make a choice, is the best way and least confusing way to put this. Other wise if you were really senior, you might not get this "choice" when they finally close the whole base at the end because there would be no FO spots in CLT to downgrade too. The word VOL is what confuses everybody. So when you tell others, keep this in mind.

So to answer your question, I am guessing you are a senior CLT Captain? If so, you would need to bid VOL to displace before they run the last Standing bid, or if you are a Junior Captain and get INVOL displaced in the first Standing bid reduction, and then ""CHOOSE"" to bid for and becoming an FO in CLT rather then remaining CA in another base, then yes, you would be able to put in a standing bid for EJet Captain per the contract as of the displacement effective date you become a CRJ FO. Once you become an FO, you can bid for an upgrade for the Ejet, because you would have the seniority to hold it.

Think of it as two separate events. One you bid to become an FO. Then two you bid to upgrade to a higher paying equipment aka the EJet.

Most recently from JO he mentioned a couple of very cheap 200s in Europe he is interested in to do some charter with. Other than that he is bidding heavily on the AA 175s. He believes Mesa will double in size in the next 5 years with more business from both American and United. Although probably not right around the corner, he also thinks he will be able to do business with Delta again one day.

I have a close friend who was emailing JO directly. The 20 700s for DFW is real. No rumor. Straight from the horse's mouth.

The 900's in CLT are going to go to DFW from what I have heard from various Mesa pilots. The PSA 900's will replace the Mesa aircraft in CLT.
