The word I got is that the company's interest in the issue is rooted in the fact that there are presently too high a percentage of captains...not specifically an age issue. It's a money issue.
Because there is no contractual way of downgrading captains to FO, the company sees the age 65 issue as a way of getting rid of 144 (?) captains who make too much and hiring new FOs at less than half the pay. The FOs over age 65 are just collateral damage.

Phenom 300 does not fall into that category.
How about the Falcon 2000 that landed at the wrong airport last year?
Regardless, passengers feel less safe with old pilots.

That curve only further serves their desire do downsize. You lose FOs, the ratio between captain and FO changes, all of a sudden you have too many captains and boom, downgrades, which the company will be able to do I believe on Jan 1 per the contract.

Perception is reality and reality is I've had more than one owner ask if the Elderly gentlemen I'm paired with is ok to fly. Sure I've been paired with a few young guys that look as if they just rolled out of bed and have no self pride or professionalism at all. Its a numbers game any way you wanna cut it. Some good and some bad everywhere.
I know I'd be ****ed being forced out if I were you, but you can either plan for it or keep telling yourself everyone is out to get you. NJ needs to get rid of handfuls of our elderly and it just so happens many of our competent elderly are getting the boot as well. Like I was told after I was furloughed here and many didn't give a damn while picking up extended days......Its just business!!

Since the older FO's aren't going anywhere, the age 65 rule getting rid of them actually hurts the company. What the company needs is a "no captains over 65" rule.
Getting rid of pilots with the looming pilot shortage.....? The short term savings might be over-shadowed by a long term reality.
