Despite your obvious feelings of amour for Penair management, just remember that it only takes a small thing to turn them against you. Do you really like looking over shoulder while doing your job every day? Penair has repeatedly proven over the years that your job is never safe. Even if you are family you could be fired in an instant.
I hate to break it to you, but Ace, Everts, and Era have all ordered and or received new aircraft in the last six months while we have gotten rid of three airplanes. This is an aircraft reduction of 20% and a seat reduction of 13%. Not exactly signs of stable times.
You don't have to vote for union ratification if you don't choose to, but I hope that you give it serious consideration. I have countless friends in ALPA and the Teamsters and every one of them would say that their job is better because of their union membership.

By first one, do you mean first person or first round?

don't mess with my job i like it here. I have been at two others that went under and that is no fun. I like the fact that I am a captain because I earned it not because I am a number. There are and have been F/O's I would not like to see Captain. On the furlough issue if you are going to be a whiner and complainer go get a job somewhere else.
I wanted to be a pilot and here I can fly 100 hours a month of good flying and with a four on three off I spend alot of time with my family compared to alot of other jobs plus I am home every night.
we have it pretty good so don't mess it up

I work at Penair. I am counting the days until I leave. Job security sucks. Management relies on scare tactics and brute force to get their way. We are unorganized and offer poor customer service. Summer months and a few winter months usually involve at least 18 days of work with an average of 12 hours spent at work each day. Trust me when I say that the grass is not greener on this side.
Time off is not the only thing that makes a job positive.

I love it. I think every airline has it's problems. I definately do not agree with the way the 15 people were fired, but I'm not sold on going union either.

Well, tell the 17 guys who aren't with Penair anymore just how stable we are again. If Penair was stable, we wouldn't have run a new hire class right before terminating people. Stability does not mean calling people to set up interviews the week before you let people go.

You started this thread to entice people to send their resume to PenAir back when they were desperate for pilots. Smells fishy to me.Why is it that all you management guys are so scared of the pilots having some representation? Life at PenAir isn't that bad, but you NEVER know what will happen. The actions of Mgmt in the past 6 months has been nothing less than deplorable. Alot of the guys fired (no reason given) were at PenAir for a long time (many were there for 5+ years). These guys were friends of mine, and I am ****ed off about it. They too thought that PenAir would do the right thing when times were tough, so they were content to stay where they were. Hiring new guys mere months before firing senior guys is just not excusable.
Just shameful.
Vote Union!!
Only a management tool, or a person drunk on PenAir kool-aid would actually consider a life-long career at PenAir. Without some sort of contract, maybe you will be the in the next group that is convenient to fire. Then where will you be? Then how will you feed your family? Some good pilots are asking themselves that question right now.

Someone PM'd me with this comment:
"Penair might put you in the right seat of a turbine twin however a year later you will be upgraded into the left seat of a Cherokee six and that is where you will stay."
Any validity to this claim? I currently have just over 1000tt with 250 multi and 935 PIC. I expect to gain several hundred more hours of total and multi time by spring...

Your job is running the company. It is pretty obvious who you are when your thread history is examined. You even advocate charging for sodas and snacks on another thread. Only the guy cashing the checks would try to justify charging a dollar for a soda when the passenger is already paying as much as a grand for a round trip ticket.
If we don't go union maybe we should just all go to the feds and tell them we work too hard and we would prefer to fly 121 flight and duty times. That would result in a 30-40% increase in pilot positions.
Pick your poison. In the long run, a union would be much cheaper.
