Yah, its not like CFIs aren't teaching and conveying that knowledge to new students day in and day out.

You must not be a CFI to make that kind statement, and I would take a guess and say your probably a lower time pilot too.

SMACFUM, Don't take offense. You just don't know what you don't know. The environment is different. I am making an assumption that you are a current CFI busting your ass to get to a 121 gig. If the assumption is wrong I apologize. I was a CFI and the majority of folks I fly with were CFI's as well. Most guys / gals I fly with at OO flew at another regional before coming here. I flew at Lakes. In our new hire class at OO we had 3 out of 20 guys who had just come from instructing. It was difficult for them, more so than for the rest of us.

I think HERRIK's point is that there is a huge leap between flying at 100 kts around your local turf as opposed to flying 250 kts to the FAF at LAX while executing the company profiles.

I have seen it first hand and most CFI's struggle to drink from the fire hose and fry their brains on the oral questions being thrown at them and by the time its time for the sim they are overwhelmed and when you have 8 rides to master a jet i gurantee you its no walk in the park. Most tend to get through because they are good at what they do or they learned quickly. Cooperate and graduate is great in theory and i agree to have a good attitude and a willingness to learn but it only can take you so far.

If so, then they are no longer in the Regional Airline business and really don't need to be a topic on this board.

If you are a pilot with less than 1500 hrs, let's say 750hrs and would like to knock out the additional time in less than a year, GLA provides an opportunity for you to do so. Pay sucks, company sucks, QOL sucks. Pilot group was awesome when I was there. It is a means to an end: it sucks It got me here though.
Thank you, that's exactly what I was saying

skypilot35 hit it on the head. But if push comes to shove, yes. It's a very small sacrifice for the greater good of the industry and pilot treatment. those 85 guys would have no problem finding a job anywhere!

CFI=Nope Low time=depends on your def of low time....I have my types and corp gig so??? But IMO it is much easier to teach some wet comm pilot to fly "our way" than it is some cfi that thinks he knows whats going on because he has been cfi'ing for however long....that being said I think the fear factor plays into the whole learning curve...300hr guy to scared not to listen...1500+ cfi thinks he knows it so he won't listen....IMO

As nice as that would be....it will never happen, these guys keep hanging around like cancer....With them lowering their mins to a cpl they will have all the bodies they ever need...who cares if half the class can't fly atp standards, the other half can and in a year those guys are sitting in the left seat.....IDK..everyone knows it's a joke but if a few low time guys can go get their time while living off of food stamps and whatever else, more power to them.
With that being said, I saw someone posted you have to provide your own transpo to the interview and no pay during training??? The only people they are gonna be able to pull are fresh cpls from CO....good for those 19/20 yo's that still live with mom and dad....

The question is how long will it take some other company to figure out they can underbid a company flying 9 seats in a 1900 by flying a Caravan or light twin.
