Ladies and gentlemen, just a few questions for pilots currently on staff.

Does Ameriflight have a contract for new hires?
How senior is the base in Buffalo and could a newly upgraded captain get it immediately?
Does the Buffalo route run through Syracuse and what are the options for a Syracuse-based pilot being home every night?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

Hanging out in TWF, and the pilot lounge is occupied by the sleeping AMF copilot. I guess they still aren't providing any accommodations for their Asian FO's on layover. That should give you insight into how much of a **** Ameriflight gives concerning the quality of life for the people flying their airplanes.

No contract for new hires.
You can have Buffalo right out of training, we are in need of pilots there.
Don't know about SYR, but again, BUF needs pilots.

LRSRanger, They pay to be First Officers. They know what they are getting into before they come. To state the fact correctly, it has nothing to do with people native to Asia. It's Eagle Jet FO's that do not receive accommodations on layovers. Ameriflight employed first officers receive hotel rooms.

I'm in a very nice hotel right now and have been all week.

I've seen sleeping pilots in FBOs from NJA.
They are known to care for their pilots pretty well right?

Did you talk to this FO and get some details to share with the forum?

Whatever the arrangement is, I believe that it is in poor form to leave someone with an Ameriflight company ID to simply fend for themselves. It paints the company in a poor light, and yes, the fact that they expect a uniformed employee to essentially live 5 days a week at a FBO shows a lack of respect toward that individual as a person, as a fellow professional, and as an aviator wearing AMF colors. AMF doesn't care about any of this, and is happy to sign a contract which leaves one of their pilots in the lurch, as long as it makes a buck.

Settle down. Only time you see an NJA pilot in the FBO sleeping is when they are required to be at the airport for tentative or hot spare. That is WAY different than having nowhere to go during your layover because the company won't provide you with a hotel.

Other than the EMB-120's, the rest of the fleet is single pilot. Tell me again why we would pay for accommodations for FO's that are not required for flight and detract from already thin margins?

Because, believe it or not, sometimes it is better to go above and beyond doing the bare minimum. Lots of companies put FOs in single pilot airplanes and treat them as equals. The pay to play program is already crap to begin with...

First off, we have first officers that are other than the Eagle Jet guys.

It makes sense to treat the people you intend to upgrade to captains well so that they'll stay at the company longer.

What's cheaper? Finding another candidate that's willing to work here for $44,000 a year, training them, and hoping they'll stay a year; OR treating the employees that are around that already have a marginal quality of life as it is well enough to keep them an additional year. A day room costs $45/d - mind you.

It's the mindset like this that really drives me insane at this company.

"Thin Margins" - show me the books.

Thin margins hahaha!

Yea when I worked there in 2010 I was told that 28k was all they could afford to pay me, and if I didn't like it, I could take a hike. Then when hiring problems start plaguing the company, all of a sudden they find more and more money to try and throw at the problem. Thin margins my ass.
