Edit: Eh, just looked, it's 186 road miles from downtown Atlanta. That said, you could stay there until you hold a line in CLT and make your commute pretty easy.

You also get 16 one way "buddy passes" per year to be used on AA/US, which also costs money.
You, the pilot, can travel on pretty much any US airline for free.

Your wife, or if single you can identify one person to be in that spot(I know single guys that give privileges to their siblings instead). Also your kids and your parents(not in-laws). All these travel on AA and US for free. You can get what's called "ZED" fares for many other airlines but it does cost a little (usually 10-20% of a normal ticket), and is lower form of standby.

Actually, I'm at the Clarion. Not a bad hotel and it does have shuttle service mon and fri to the grocery store. Free gym less than a mile away (shuttle will take you), Free hot breakfast and free lunch (which fairfield inn doesn't have), Heated pool if you have time. pretty cool amenities for this place. Has a restaurant down stairs too.

You CAN choose in laws, but they won't fly for free. Its still a great benefit for them, however. You're correct, sir...just expounding a bit
