Straight from the LOA:
Effect of Merger (including the Agreement and Plan of Merger made on February 13, 2013, between US Airways Group, Inc., AMR Corporation and AMR Merger Sub, Inc. (the “Merger”)). The provisions of this Letter of Agreement will be binding on any successor of US Airways, including a successor that results from the operational merger of US Airways and American Airlines, and US Airways will require that any such successor agree in writing to be bound by this Letter of Agreement. Moreover, within 30 days after the issuance by the Federal Aviation Administration of a single operating certificate as a result of any such merger, the Parties will meet and discuss increasing the minimum number of positions under paragraph 4c of this Letter of Agreement, taking into account the size of the PSA pilot force relative to the other wholly-owned subsidiaries and PSA’s operating requirements.

We shall see what happens. There have been a lot of rumors flying around about what will happen when the certificates merge. I've heard that they want to increase the amount of people they interview from PSA to at least 12 per month and preferably more (like 16). So that would be right around the 10% mark.

April 15th is supposedly the merger date so negotiations will start soon after.

Agreed that the language is weak.

I've heard rumors that it gets done in April and also rumors that it would be this fall......at best.

It seems to me it would be in their best interest to increase the number to at least 10. If that were the case in about 3 years time the most senior guy on the list not counting the 50ish that bypassed will be 3-4 years. They'll have themselves a 150 acft airline at ridiculous cheap labor prices. This is the plan they sold us all along. Time to find out if they were lying(probably).

I don't see why this wouldn't be their ideal plan. Key word: ideal. It keeps guys flowing up to AAG and keeps regional labor costs down. Everyone is happy. Of course a lot can change in the next few years that could send the airlines for another spiral. We shall see.

I think it would be ideal if there weren't such a shortage of
Fresh meat these days. Let's face it, even PSA would struggle to hire if they didn't have plenty of pilots coming from other 121 carriers.
So your right, it would be ideal if everything else was ideal. Right now though, they want to keep their regionals staffed. Major staffing will never be an issue.

This is why flows don't work. Ask my friends here at envoy who waited 16 years to flow after they were told they would be there in 3 years. Even now, our flow has once again stalled. There is always a reason.

I mean, I see flows as a carrot to get guys on the top-end of the seniority list onboard with whatever it is the company wants from its pilot group. The biggest attractant to new hires is the allure of being able to get in, get TPIC time quickly, and moving on to whatever their heart desires. Which is currently what PSA offers.
