Is there a definitive policy or practice regarding whether or not AA will hire PSA pilots that apply 'off the street' vs only accepting through the flow?
PSA is a top choice for me when I apply to the regionals in the fall as I wish to live in CLT, however AA is my longterm goal.
Is this a realistic concern?
Thanks.

If you don't have the internal recs, then no...you will have a very hard time getting the call outside of the SSP.

Surprising they would let a person who has no regard for the rules and struggled in initial because of it instruct. Hard to believe that they would let you instruct working there only 8 months from being in airline training (3/22/2014) to quitting the industry (11/03/2014).
As you would put it: "lol"

Whole different world down here, with its own considerations. Oh, and following the rules up there works just fine too.

I know it is...very pussified...I missed the bush after leaving.....somthing about tackling a 40 knotter xwind at night in hooper bay was far more bad ass than an ils into DCA while George flies it. Lol

It isn't just PSA, but the way PRIA paperwork is handled when one airline employee leaves and goes to another airline. Expect it to pop up as an issue everywhere as it is being reviewed. It is really not as dramatic as you are making it sound. Most everyone is flying again.
One of the biggest issues is names of airlines. If you worked for one airline that changed it's name or merged, a separate pria request must be mailed even though it was the same job - and your old company must send your exact same records twice.

80 is an inflated number and it had nothing to do with federal background checks, but with the PRIA stuff as CLT stated above. It really was just a hiccup and has already been rectified. People are using it as an opportunity to try and make us look bad... When it is hardly the earth-stopping event some would have you believe. Nothing has changed, classes are running as normal, guys are flying as normal. I wouldn't worry about it.

After years of applying...i finally got called for a railroad interview. I hope it pans out. Im currently in training at a 121 regional about week 5. Starting sims after a short break. I have to say im not enjoying myself. My entire background was bush flying professionally prior to this.....I've found the adjustment to "normal" flying very difficult.......short of going back to Alaska.....i would love to work on the railroad and just be active in general aviation. If it doesn't work out with a job offer.....I'm going to go back to bush flying....probably in Africa this go around. Any other rail or bush guys on here?
Dont feel bad.....I'm currently in 121 training and am struggling. I was a bush pilot in Alaska for several years 135. This stuff is so different.....i believe there is a certain type of flying for everyone. I don't enjoy this rule infested procedure garbage. Dont give up.....maybe try something else. Like flying dusters.....bush flying...or instructing. After flying outside the box for so long and up north....ive had a horrible time adjusting to the correct way of flying again. Everyone has their challenges to overcome.
Finally out....lol after ten years of applying....and trying and repeating again....finally got a government job with the state working in the department of transportation. Gonna love that pension.
Nope!! Lol I got out. Going to work for a class I freight railroad as a conductor.....better pay by far and a retirement pension. I'm currently instructing at a regional with my last day the end of February. I've never been so happy. I'll fly for fun and y'all can have this profession.
