New hires with 0 121SIC time will probably take 1.5 years to get the 1000 hours needed to upgraded. At that point, you will become captain with a normal progression off of reserve into a line, probably a few months.
The new pilots coming in that already have the 1000 hours SIC, while they will be able to make Captain in 8 total months, they will likely be Captain on reserve for that same 1.5 to 2.0 year period while all the pilots senior to them get there 1000 SIC hours and upgrade, who will hold better lines etc..
As a new hire with the time, take your pic- upgrade to captain very quickly but probably have a reserve schedule as captain longer -or- sit FO longer with a good schedule.
Hope that makes sense.

There's no more than 5 planes coming CLT, the rest will go to other bases. DAY crews will probably do the ORD flying at the beginning until ORD opens up as a crew base.

I would plan for 6-8 months of reserve in CLT if you upgrade at 1.5 years. Maybe 2-3 months less for TYS or DAY. This is just some educated speculation because I've been looking at this stuff closely lately. It will be interesting to see how the opening of another crew base shakes things out in CLT on the captain side. No matter what the new base is, CLT will always be the most senior base.

Time will tell on that one. My guess is around 20 CLT captain would transfer to ORD. Who knows about FOs. Most of the FOs are still on probation.

Just like any other base, if a ORD base opens, 1/2 the pilots will want it and the other 1/2 will avoid it. Clearly, there will be pilots in CLT leaving to go to ORD.

CLT has a lot of commuters. If ORD (or wherever the new base is) is an easier commute, people will go there. Others will go there to better their seniority in base.
This is pure speculation, but I don't think anyone would be surprised if we opened 2 new bases. With the number of airplanes, it just makes sense.

There's no way 1/2 the CLT guys will leave for ORD. Among all the CLT captains that are holding lines, no more than 20 would probably leave. Even less would switch to a new outstation base or New York. CLT has a lot of commuters, maybe half the pilots. But ORD would not make a better commute for 80% of the commuters. I've talked with some west coats commuters and most would take CLT over ORD. Does anyone know what a crew hotel near ORD or LGA cost? I don't, but I bet it's not cheaper than CLT.

Any new base will go really junior. Among the CLT guys with a #450 or lower, maybe 5% will leave for another base.
