When you're deadheading you won't get the email or confirmation number.

When the company is deadheading you some place the only way that I am aware you can get a confirmation # is by calling crew scheduling. My rule of thumb is IF I want to get on the dead head ie get home, then I will call crew scheduling in advance to get my confirmation #. If I don't really want to get on the dead head ie for a crumby assignment then I will show up to the gate on time and chances are our wonderful schedulers will have forgotten to book my dead head. Problem solved.

I do not believe that we have the ability to change our deadhead seat assignment, like I was able to do in my previous job working United Express Flights. If we can, I would love to hear how.

I haven't tried to do it, but I've heard from some people that if you do get the confirmation number, you can go in and change the seats using the usairways app.

True Statement. I have done it a couple of times.

Are people frustrated? Absolutely. Do we have a right to be? Absolutely.

But our crap sandwhich is better than others.

Also, if you don't have a confirmation number, you can check in using your name at a kiosk and switch your seats there. I've done this a few times.

Depending on the gate agent, they will look out for you. I was originally assigned to DH in last row seat next to someone on a 200. When I got to the gate, the gate agent moved me to the first row with an empty seat next to me. Be nice to the gate agents, they will be nice to you.

This is true. I was assigned a seat in row 10 on a 900, but while boarding, the gate agent told me that I'm in 2D. That was a nice surprise!

Yes, it happened to me last month.
So let me get this straight. They told you that you could kick someone out of the jump seat because you are positive space? That is completely false. But I think you knew that already. And the fact they had you talk to a supervisor is very unprofessional. I would have filed a few complaints about that. Gate agents are clueless.
