Everyone was disappointed with the FMLA announcement. We will see how that works out.
My lines haven't been too bad, but I don't commute, so I can't complain. I can see it being an issue, however. Many lines are down right terrible.
I would expect a whole bunch of announcements in the next few weeks. Street captains will likely be first, but we will see.
They will likely bombarded us with new stuff, and we will need to be very careful to ensure that when the dust settles that we are better off than we are now.

New with the company, starting differences this week and awaiting IOE. I got the email on FMLA and other than it being administered by a new company what were the benefits before, what changed? What are the negative effects? I'll be honest, with sim training and being so new I didn't research it too much.
Also, with the potential of street captains, I don't see this as being a good thing for us guys without the 1000 hrs. If I see this right, does this mean that we will loose seniority to a street captain? Or will it just mean that our upgrades could be potentially delayed due to leapfrogging us?
It sounds kind of ironic that the upgrade wash out is so high that we need to hire street captains. I understand that there are pilots that should not be captains, but come on it can't be that high. To what master does this serve?
Thanks for any insight

Why would you guys need to hire street captains with the amount of FO's you have hired who are jumping ship from other places? It sounds like guys with the time are being upgraded right out of FO IOE. That means it is happening in seniority order which should be just fine with everyone.

I may be mistaken, but I think that they would like to fast track qualified guys through and have them flying in 3 months or less, as opposed to the 6 months it takes now.

We can not fill upgrade classes. They are currently canceling classes, and trying to get prior 121 guys through IOE as fast as they can so they can upgrade them. For all intents and purposes, they are street captains.

The company that they are using is the issue. They have a pretty significant history as a union-busting law firm. It might turn out that they do a good job handling FMLA...we will see.

Most of the guys that are upgrading that quickly right now have well over 5 years in the airlines. I would bet that the average number of years is at least 7. All of them that I know have their applications in EVERYWHERE!. I would not be surprised if half of them are captains less than 24 months or less and are gone to a major. You can choose to look at this as a negative, and it may turn out to be. Only time will tell. The other way to look at it is that you will be fairly senior when you upgrade.

I think that the official word is that washout rate for upgrade is about 25%. Half of these are people showing up to class underprepared for it. That is the biggest reason for the failures that seems to be present. Other than that, reasons vary.

Anyone have any update on the status of the IOE backlog? I heard a week ago that they were only halfway through the November hires and only just starting on the December guys... Now they are almost finished with December guys? Just looking for some up to date info so I can try and plan accordingly. Thanks!

I don't work for PSA but do a lot of flights originate and terminate in BNA? If so, the likelihood of it becoming a base is good. if not I doubt it will happen. Express jet has (or had) TYS for a MX base and it will likely never be a crew base.

As far as IOE in general, I have no idea exactly where they are.
