This. Pretty sure the new MEC Chair feels the same way.

Glad they are against it. Serious question though. Searching the PDF of the contract, I don't see anything prohibiting the company. How can we stop it?

I'd rather volunteer my time at a food kitchen than give my money away. I know directly where my time and effort are going. Intangible goods seem to be more effective.

I applaud your volunteer efforts. I think we all should do what we can. Please remember that you wouldn't have any food to serve at the food kitchen if someone hadn't donated the $$$ to buy it. The United Way does a pretty good job of getting the most delivered out of what is donated. They learned a very hard PR lesson 15 years ago..........
Would $5.00 a paycheck really hurt you?

....................................Not even sure where to begin on this.

Do you mean the current chair? Because he's been in that position for like 4 months. The previous? He had nothing to do with the 12/4, got us a flow, and devoted countless hours to a (hopefully) succsessful critical pay arbitration. The one before him that's been gone from PSA for a year+? Or maybe you are talking about the newly elected chair who hasn't even taken office yet.

Which one buddy?

I didn't know we have a newly elected MEC that hasn't taken office? Is this why our current MEC hasn't signed the LOAs that were voted in several weeks ago?

A MEC is a group of people. A Chair is a single person. You are mixing things up badly.

I understanding my technically incorrect use of union definitions, I meant chairman when I said MEC.

I think most people's problem with it is that the company seems to be forcing it down our throat to donate. Nothing wrong with helping people but we can do it in a better and less demanding way than sending the pilot and flight attendant group emails every hour. Also it's sort of offensive to ask us if $5 a pay check would really hurt us. No it probably wouldn't but remember a lot of our pilots and FAs make close to poverty wages their first year. Just remember a lot of employees on regional payrolls could probably use some donations as well. Hopefully you'll remember asking us if $5 will really hurt us next time we're asking for livable wages.

Well when maybe 10-15% of that 5 bucks actually goes to charity then it doesn't really matter if it hurts or not. The CEO of United Way makes over a million a year. That in itself is a problem. Perishable donations to food kitchens usually come from supermarkets, grocers, and restaurants and are tax deductible.
