I had considered flying part 91 while waiting on training as well. Can anyone who is actually in the company, or has been through the training, is this a problem?
Outside of flying, do they care if you work another job, i.e. drive for uber, mall security, mcdonalds drive thru etc.

They can't prevent you from working a non aviation second job. Lol.

Look at it from the point of view of someone who has no 121 time, would like to pick up 1000 hours of it in a fairly expeditious manner so that they can be in a position to upgrade, and then is kept waiting so that the DECs can go through their training and take those captain slots.
Paid vacation is nice, but if the regionals are to be a "get your time and get out" deal, getting your time is a big part of that equation.

I believe this is old information. 117 describes which type of flying is limited to 1000 hours a year, instructing and part 91 aren't applicable. The OLD standard was if you were exercising your commercial certificate, the current 117 rule is if your flying for a commercial operator i.e. someone who holds an operating certificate. You don't need to ask your company, you're paid to use your judgment it conflicts don't do it, if it doesn't there is no question to ask.

Has it occurred to anyone that a backup in training doesn't equate to being on paid vacation? Of course you can be called out at a moment's notice - you're on the clock; it's not hard time off! For someone to complain because they get called out on a moment's notice during that time is ludicrous. How about taking that time to continue studying so you don't unsat your oral?
There's a concept.
