I used to live in Williamsburg. IMO, using ORF for commuting depends on where you live relative to ORF. If you're on the west side of the Hampton Roads Tunnel, PHF and RIC might be better alternatives. If you're on the east side, ORF is better.

As someone else accurately said, there's lots of AD military and they make up a good bit of the traveling public in and out of ORF, especially on travel orders. I know there are several commuters in and out of ORF. Some are AW pilots commuting in or out as well as PSA pilots commuting to/from CLT. Good luck!

If you are PSA, flying on PSA metal, then you have priority. I have flown in and out of ORF a hundred times, and think I only had someone on the jumpseat 4 or 5 times, and they were always mainline. If you are commuting on your own metal, it isn't too bad.

Default ORF - CLT Commute

I work at PSA, live in VA Beach and commute do the ORF to CLT commute. I've done it now for about 6 months and it's not bad. I've only not made my first flight once but made the second. The return flight home is sometimes tricky though. Usually the later flights are mainline and I've gotten bumped a couple times. Only not made it home once though.

I looked at AWAC but I couldn't justify going somewhere with no current growth. If you're former military and all you need is 121 experience it might be a good fit.

Feel free to message me if you want any additional info.

Actually 12 left from last month (including a 4 January new hire). There were 6 new hires. 12 left plus 6 new hires is a net loss of 6.

12/15 1122 last new hire on the list 3 aug

1/16 1195 +73 4 left, plus 77 new hires between 3 aug-4 jan

2/16 1189 -6 12 left plus 6 new hire between 4 jan - 1 feb

I guess that 5k bonus isn't bringing the flood of applicants they expected.

AA's Wholly Owned bonuses and pay are pretty low compared to the competiton now. This shouldn't be all that surprising.

I have heard that PSA management gave a proposal to AAG for pay and contract improvements and haven't heard anything back.

Hope it's enough. It's not soon enough to stop a staffing issue in a couple months.

I hope so as well, but I don't have high hopes. The entire contract needs revised, but any improvements should include as an absolute minimum;

Across the board pay raises
4 hour minimum day with no carve outs
minimum day for reserves
150% sdo pay
175% critical pay (and the critical pay issues fixed obviously)
200% junior man pay (otherwise there is no incentive to nominate critical days)
Commuter/Cancellation hotels

This is just the tip of the iceberg and really only brings PSA up to what could now be considered industry standard, certainly not industry leading and probably not enough to entice people to commute to Dayton, Knoxville, or Cincinnati.
