Exactly

I'm not a commuter so I don't know the details, but if your listed as a commuter, you can request they get you a hotel room in JFK/CVG during the days of your CD line. You'd have to ask someone how to go about it, but it's in the contract!

Flight attendants don't get this in their contract.

Ive done it its true. Prior to the start of your month of CD's you call hotels and let them know you would like a room in base during the days of your cd's.

Here another tip: When you check into the hotel let them know you will be there for 3 days and they will just let you keep the same room for all three days. Then when you go into work for the night you can give your hotel room to someone who may have to sleep in ops. Just tell them they have to be out by 8 in the morning when you get back.

The flight attendants might not have this in their contract but one thing they do have(that we should have) is the fact when they get displaced in base they get a hotel room.

Yeah, I just found it in the contract, and here I was dreading having to attempt to sleep during the day in a crashpad. Thanks for the pointout.

This may have already been discussed as well, but as far as holding a CD line, if no one bids for a particular CD line, then it is junior assigned; which is why sometimes you see a very junior person being assigned a CD line. So if you know you can't hold a regular line and would like to be off reserve, bid for a CD line and you just might get it if no one senior to you bids it.

Did anyone here the guy complaining on acceptions yesterday because they held the boarding on his plane even though the crew said it was ok? Acceptions "We were told that the F/A told the ramp guys to hold boarding" Pilot "Im telling you that that was incorrect" What a douche. Then I was in CLT ground told us to taxi following the American MD-80. So we did. Some Express Jet guy "Ground are we suppose to hold for the Comair jet?" Ground short pause "ahhhhhhhh yea, just wait for him" Express Jet "Well he's already in front of us I guess we have no choice". First off we were told to, second, what was the deal with everyone yesterday? Anyone else have stories from yesterday, maybe a full moon or something?

Well I have a story kinda. Apparently since I haven't worked the entire month being on call, no one told me about this CD I have to pick up in the CP office. Doesn't seem to be on EPIC either. Soo, CP calls and says I need this before May 1. I said I'm in DFW at home on LC and probobly won't get called. He asks if I would fly up to CVG or JFK tomorrow to pick up a CD unless I do get called. I asked, why can't you just mail it. He says, it won't get there in time. I said Fedex overnight it. He said, well its an FAA thing, it has to be personally handed to you. So looks like I'm gonna fly to CVG just to pick up a disk tomorrow and fly back home. yay!!

As a former ramp tower employee, I can say with authority that this is nothing new. The behavior on exceptions can be embarassing at times, especially when us pilots start pouting like 4 year old children. Most people forget that the exceptions freq is a public freq, and the public can, and does, listen to our conversations. The poor guys in the tower are just a coordination center and are usually relaying messages. Taking your anger and frustruations out on them isn't going to help you in any way whatsoever.

On a related note, if you guys have never been up to the tower, I'd highly recommend going up there and seeing how every thing works. Give them a call on the phone and tell them you'd like to take a look, they'd be happy to show you around. Or just let me know and I'll take you up if I'm not on a trip.
