Quote: Is the SCE out and back a charter trip? Is there anything special FO's need to do on a trip like that because I have one coming up?

Thanks in advance!
If you have a charter you just look for and pickup for a charter packet (little binder has your flight number on it) when you report. They are generally on top of the 50 FO V-file's.. They have Weight and balance info, Catering, and approach charts (if it is an airport we don't service normally).

Charters are a blast, usually lots of extra food!

Quote: SCE is only a charter flight if the flight number is 9XXX. We do (or did) scheduled service into SCE, so chances are it's a scheduled flight. Nothing special, unless you need to learn how to use an uncontrolled airport.

I flew a CVG/SCE out and back the other day. It was a 97XX flight number and NOT a charter. It was a revenue flight.

The SCE station manager said that there were 70 seat flights originally scheduled but, for some reason, 70 seaters cannot land there. The 97XX flights were added when the 70 seat flights were downsized to maintain capacity.

It was a good opportunity to sharpen the uncontrolled airfield skills. Picking up clearance on the taxi was fun too.

how often do you guys go into SCE? I'd be looking to non-rev/jumpseat there a lot from CVG.

97XX flight number might be extra sections. Its in the bid packets. We did a lot of charters there for Penn State. Why cant the 70 land there? The thing with SCE is that on DSL's it is listed as SCE but the airport ident is actualy UNV I think. They changed it about a year ago but it hasnt been changed in SBS yet.

If I remember correctly, 9750+ are Extra Sections, while the 974x are charters. 94xx are MX ferries, 96xx are aircraft repositions, and it used to be 99xx were charter ferries, but that doesn't seem to be holding up. Flight Controllers (MK I know you read these) care to chime in?

The SCE flight I'm doing today is a 5725 number or something like that so it must just be a regular flight. I'll brush up on my uncontrolled airport skills though!

Quote: Hey JFK guys/gals. How many FOs have been getting long call? Is it 20 or 40% that get it?

I'm trying to decide if it's worth it for me to bid it and NOT JM or to bid other windows and JM

40% I would just count every month to see if I was in the % or not.... I dont think there's very many people on reserve for june tho.....

Since when? We've sent lots of 70s there before. I've ridden on them PS in the past when we upsized 50 seat flights.

Going by book numbers the 70 actually uses less runway because of the lower landing and takeoff speeds. Useful thing slats are. Taxiways are a little narrow though.

I doubt it's a runway issue at SCE. RWY 1/19 @ DCA is about the same length as the one in SCE, and we take the 70/90 in and out of there all the time.
