Also, it was the first day of my return to scheduling from dispatch, where I had spent about a year. I used SBS for a year in scheduling, and an additional year in dispatch, prior to today, so Maestro is a bit of a learning experience for me.

Hey Montu, welcome to this thread. I hope you didn’t take my post as a personal attack, I was just illustrating this companies lack of thorough training in the crew scheduling department. You are not the first person I have spoken to that was mystified of why I was calling to chat on my day off.

Good luck to you and hang in there, you’ve got a job I do not envy.

Going 14+ days is a good achievement, especially with the troubles we have been having. It means that, through the rough times that all of the departments are having (there are more people that are getting pay cuts/lay offs/etc than just pilots), we can still operate an airline.
Ouch, way to smack your brothers when they're down. Yeah, the consensus from furloughed pilots is that Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day should all be canceled. Thank God you're a pilot and not a grief counselor.

I think the tone of everyone's feelings is that the company patting itself on the back (for a rather un-significant accomplishment considering the pull-down in flying) is rather inappropriate considering the number of people (pilots, rampers, GO staff, janitors etc) no longer employed by Shrinkair.

As far as pointing out that there are more than just pilots losing jobs, isn't that pointing out the obvious? Last time I checked, this is predominantly a pilot message board...not Airline Back Office Support Staff Central. Most of the conversations regarding job losses will probably be about pilots.

I sincerely hope that you never have to walk a mile in a someone else's furlough shoes.

Oh no... not taken personally at all. I just felt a little clarification was needed there, nothing negative. As far as the training goes, this is my second time through scheduling training, and I am so far quite pleased with the other members of my class. They should do a great job when the hit the floor around Thanksgiving, as long as everything proceeds as it has so far. You can't really chalk today up to the training program, as we are still no more than halfway through the process. Today was originally supposed to be observation only, but due to how things have been running and my experience on that side of the room, they let me (read: told me to) work the desk. As a matter of fact, I just heard one of your FO brethren was just hired to fill out our class, beginning on Monday. That should make things interesting for you guys...

They ought to take that money they're going to spend on the food and the "celebration" and save a job or two for a few months. Or take that money and invest it in Comair infrastructure/equipment.

Why is it such a big accomplishment that we achieved these completion days? Shouldn't that be what we strive for every day, regardless? A thank you is enough for me. Just a small amount of recognition is all I ask for.

You guys are looking at the next Dave Soaper!

Its not hard achieving 100% completion days with half the fleet sitting in remote and ferrying planes around empty left and right.

PS: I just got an extra day off because of the stupidity of scheduling

Donating our Ham certificates to the furloughed guys is a good idea. That is if the company is even planning on giving us Hams this year.

Does the certf, even cover the cost of a ham? Last I checked it was only like half the price of a good Hony Bake Ham.

something kinda funny about the hams... this last year i worked at honey baked ham company, just for a period of 7 days around christmas and new year, and i got paid an hourly wage plus got to take home any ham of my choice at the end of the week. i was bored over the holidays while i was home from college and wanted to earn a buck. well my brother is an fo at comair (who might be reading this) and the free ham that i got was worth more than twice as much as his certificate. just thought it was kinda funny at the time. not so funny now that he missed being furloughed by about one or two weeks of DOH since he's got a new baby boy. it'd be nice if the company would do a little something for those on the street, even if it is just a simple meal.
