yeah I heard this rumor from a friend in RGS a few days ago, if we don't go with the UA flying means more furloughs ,UA is gonna be all 50seat flying and is a way for Delta to get rid of them..... confused, don't know if anyone heard similar about more furloughs

How sad is it that we're groveling for more flying with another airline that's managed probably just as badly as DL is. The only saving grace in the UA deal would be that maybe we would be ground-handled by Comair stations where they exist, and even that might not be guaranteed.

Another round of furloughs is not only plausible but I'd say very likely. Even if Freedom went the way of the dodo, who's to say Delta would replace that regional feed. All this as we watch the NW wholly-owneds (soon to be DCI carriers) growing like mad. It's easy to grant unawarded flying to carriers when they're not "Delta" yet (read: Mesaba and Compass).

You really want to know? It's because Delta is actually paying for all the fuel that the DCI carriers burn and in an effort to control costs, they make the mainline crews do these things. So as the mainline crews were doing all these things behind a DCI airplane which is taxing with both engines and the APU running, or sitting at the gate with the APU running, comments were made to Flt Ops about the disparity. Long story short, "You know what" rolls downhill, and management found another stick to threaten the DCI carriers with. Don't get your costs inline by burning too much fuel, and they will use the numbers against you ala Mesa.

Not saying it's right, just that's the way it is.

We single engine taxi almost always. We aren't in negotiations, so I fail to see how tanking our numbers helps anyone.

As for using the APU at the gate, well there is a big disparity. most places we seem to park like jfk or atl, don't have the ground power or won't plug it in. The ground crews will almost never plug us in with ground air or it isn't available or it won't reach. For mainline they have it waiting and it takes maybe 30 to 60 seconds after block in for them to have it up and running.

Rumor is that the only flying United has available is 50 seat lift and OH isn't interested in that. United is limited to the number of 70 seat aircraft providing lift, so it doensn't appear that we will get anything from them.

I just find it hard to believe that there were many options on the table during the bankruptcy to mitigate the amount of furloughs and here we are not in BK and nothing has been done. Simply just telling people to go home, while abusing the ones that are left.

I find this hard to believe. Why the eff would Comair turn down any chance at more flying? Sure, Comair would prefer more 70 seat flying, but if the only offer on the table is for 50s, I would REALLY like to think that they will snatch it up before it's too late. If the decline in oilprices continues, 50 seat flying can be profitable again.

Oh, and gas is down to $2.37 a gallon in DSM. Never thought I'd see that again.

I would agree on that. With Comair pulling so many 50-seaters off of Delta Connection, why not keep them flying if United wants them to do that? Anyway, $2.37 in DSM? Damn....it's down to $3.57 in HNL. And I thought that was cheap.

This reminds me of a similar situation a few years ago when ACA lost their Dojet flying within DCI and Delta was looking for some place to put them. The story I heard is that they wanted to give them to Comair but our MEC wouldn't budge on a lower pay rate, insisting we use the 50 seat rj rate. Delta got the message we weren't interested and continued shopping. Well guess who comes in a few weeks later with an offer to take the leases off Delta's hands if Delta will give them a percentage of DCI flying? Yep...MESA! Way to go MEC...thanks for opening the door for Freedom. The point is if you are given an oppurtunity for new flying, you ALWAYS TAKE IT.

Hey Otto, the DO jet was a POS, that's why nobody is flying them.

otto, while i see your point on takeing any and every bit of flying you can get, in the regional market... there is something said about sticking to your guns and holding out for better work rules, wages, etc. etc. etc. what would have been next? lower wages on the 50 because of having a lower wage on the DOjet?
