I just had a talk with someone in flight operations and he indicated that they will NOT even consider a low time pilot anymore unless he/she is from a 141 program. Yet the new 1500/ATP rule is not in effect yet. He said only 1500/ATP for non-141 pilots.

Did I hear him wrong? Can/should I still apply? They use to take low timers and judging from a topic I started, they "need" pilots.

Thanks!

They may "not even consider" low timers anymore as their "public" policy, but the reality is that they are hiring them. But it's not where you want to be, my recommendation, stay away.

This may be true, but it does really seem that the low-timers are all coming from select collegiate 141 programs, specifically Purdue and Daniel Webster to name a couple.

I heard that the last class coming out were mostly low time and almost all came from Purdue and maybe a couple from DWC. Also heard that the training dept says they're not really wanting to take even the ERAU kids because they're not producing steam gauge competent pilots anymore.

The new hires who don't hold the degrees all seem to have "higher" time (ATP mins or close to them) from what I hear, so I buy it that the only low timers are from the prefered schools with good records of getting through our training. Anyone see it different than this, or are most of the low timers Purdue or DWC, etc?

hey there-

Just finishing up SOE. In my Class there were 9 purdue guys and everyone else was either from DWC or had high time around 1000. I know that there is a May, June, and July Class all hired.

I have a question...... Why does a 141 program matter? I did mine via the 61 route but flew in a 141 program to get it (don't ask). I'm not going to graduate from said 141 school but why are they caring about this now? More than one person has told me I seem a bit more rounded then the "traditional" 141 students in the program.

Unless things have changed recently, Purdue is not a 141 school.

That's correct, Purdue is not 141. I don't know how much longer piedmont will be hiring Purdue grads, as the 727 is now gone, and the steam warriors are gone, there is just one more graduating class that will have any exposure to flying steam... Most of us new hires out of Purdue still have 1 - 2 years of instructing while completing undergrad/masters degrees. SOE starts next!

Have a great memorial day weekend!

I think they prefer to hire someone who has been flying for several years. If a pilot graduates from an aviation college they've been flying in that environment for about four years.

Last I knew Purdue was 91.

What's the latest on LGA?
