Many guys on here don't work for Eagle, so I wouldn't blast their solidarity, I'm one of your antagonists and I sure don't work for any faction of AMR. My personal belief is that not picking up open time, unless requested by the union, formally or informally, is basically like urinating in to the wind.

neither do I, and the only OT I ever worked was when it suited my purposes, not theirs... in other words the trip went someplace I wanted to go, or was with a crew I wanted to work with. There are plenty of ways to make money, prostituting myself by working OT for airline management isn't on my high list of to do items.

You're right, it USED to be.

Now, it's every pilot for himself with a thousand rationalizations from major pilots and regionals alike why THEIR interests are paramount.

Fly safe.

I don't work for a company that can Junior-Man so my train of thought was along your lines. They can't force me to work and I can't think of to many people who would go looking for open time they didn't want to fly

When the company has called in need of help, I've told them no. Not because I didn't want to help them, I just didn't feel like working on my days off.

So if picking up opentime with people on furlough doesn't change anything, why is it considered an illegal job action not to do it? I mean why would a company go after someone for doing something that doesn't change anything?

Default UAL Ruling

Just throwing this out, but I have seen varying interpretations of the UAL lawsuit listed above. Anyone thinking about violating the "status quo" should read the judge's preliminary injunction ruling for themselves. Check out www.ualinfo.com and click on "Read the filings". Keep in mind it is a UAL sponsored website.

Just my $.02.

I do feel bad about those that are furloughed. I even accept that this fall my fate may be the same. Heaven help the person that calls me out in the crew room because I picked up a trip in order to make up for missed time or make my measly $800 rent. Up until a few days ago I had 3 other people depending on me to make it on second year FO pay. Now I only have 2 but my obligation is still the same. I wouldn't dare pick it up so I can buy something fun or even eat out, but I will if my family needs me to. Whether I pick up OT or get a second job I would still in a way be taking work away from our furloughed few.

Instead of us figuring out how to screw the company out of more money and make our furlough possibilities larger maybe we should try to to our best to cost as little as possible and do as much work as we can in order to get our company back to where it needs to be. I'm not at all saying work for free, just do what you were freaking hired to do people. Would it be to hard to even wear a smile?

Remember when all you wanted to do was be an airline pilot? Now that we are airline pilots we are all fighting and complaining and pointing the finger anywhere but at ourselves. Just like a good marriage you can't keep score, you just have to do all you can do and not worry about other people's job description. I'm sure that someone will flame this and I don't care. Like I said, just do what you were hired to do.

And if all ~2600 of us agreed to give up 1 four day trip per month, it would keep 650 more pilot jobs!

that logic just doesnt work.
