I really find this topic ironic. RJ guys fighting over MAINLINE flying! Who do you think you guys got this flying from in the first place? At some point YOUR company was the lower bidder and reduced the number of mainline jobs commensurately.
When ASA, GoJet, TSA, ExpressJet, Skywest etc all start marketing and selling tickets on their own flights then perhaps you could have an argument. But as it stands now you guys rely on the name of the mainline corporation and the infrastructure it provides to be the "lowest" bidders.

One National Seniority list...is the only way to stop this "race to the bottom"
All this finger pointing and decisiveness is exactly what every management team wants.
It's all the same profession whether you fly 50 passengers or 300.

I do agree with your last statement wholeheartedly. We all do the same job. Some just work for better companies.

Again, your missing the point. Im not trying to talk down to you...im just saying. SOUTHWEST is not in the same business as the mainline guys. SOUTHWEST doesnt serve the small markets mentioned before, the same markets that feed the bigger guys to fly overseas...transcon...etc. And again, if you want to get rid of the smaller markets...fine. But if you want to keep them....i think there is always going to be some sort of feeder support for it. Just my two cents...
I do realize that Southwest is a different model, but more significantly I believe that Southwest has management that wants to run an airline that moves people from A to B efficently. Mainline seems to have management that wants to use the airline as a piggy bank and travel agency that outsources as muich work as possible to other vendors while cashing in on the brand reputation built over the past decades.
I've said it before that I think all flying should be done in house which would bring the vast majority of "Regional" pilots in house and allow management to actually manage the brand and quality of product.
My avitar is actually an A-Model 64, which I was flying untill this spring. I am now transitioning to the D-Model in my guard unit, just haven't updated the picture yet. Lot's of fun and work, it also helps pay the bills while furloughed. I am officially the oldest 64 driver in my company.

If ASA can't compete, then they'll lose. The lowest bidder wins. Everybody has to lower the bar to the level of the leanest guy. This is why we're seeing the loss of US manufacturing jobs. We simply can't compete with a guy who's more than willing to work for US$3.00/day.

Just wait. The race to the bottom hasn't even begun. During the hiring boom of 07/08...several flight schools stopped paying employees period. They considered the flight time compensation. They were still overloaded with resumes. Now wait til the majors start hiring alot. Youll start to see regionals do the same thing. People who are using the regionals as a stepping stone will be willing to work for free.

Someone who gets it. I keep chuckling when I read guys posting how a pilot shortage will lead to higher wages at the regional because they'll be short on pilots. Nope, this is what will happen. Every guy who's dreamt of flying will see that the majors are hiring like crazy and the regionals are upgrading in 16 months and FLOOD ATP with guys paying 60k for their tickets, willing to work anywhere for nothing, thinking they'll get on at DAL in 24 months from when they started their PPL.
I predict wages will go down and you'll see guys paying for training in the regionals.
