I keep chuckling when I read guys posting how a pilot shortage will lead to higher wages at the regional because they'll be short on pilots. Nope, this is what will happen.

I predict wages will go down and you'll see guys paying for training in the regionals.
RAHs BB has the same vision. I agree with the above poster that a national seniority list will solve the issues of having a lowest bidder.

But $60k, is that even enough to cover training costs? Who will invest in flight training knowingly that airline wages will never be restored?

Not sure, that's what ATP was charging the last time I got curious and looked.

But yes, guys will pay that, even if all the regionals are paying $19/hr first year with a 24 month contract and requiring $10,000 in up front training costs.

Because, hey, I'll be at DAL making 400k/year in 24 months with 20 days off every month. The guy on the phone told me so!

Damn.

I think TAFB is how they measure things. Not flight hours. You're cheapest when you look at flight time divide it out.

What would rock, is if airline unions started fighting for pay by the duty hour.

There will never be a real pilot shortage. There will exist a shortage WELL QUALIFIED pilots though. Remember back in 07/08 when there was a shortage at the regional level? How many of those newhires were furoughed guys from AA? None. They could not work for $18,000/year, but the 300 hour wonders will filling the seats nicely. Shortage?

Now here is someone who gets it. Whatever jackwagon back in the day who thought we should get paid by the flight hour deserved to be beaten down. When your at work you should be getting paid for it. Not hey, lets show up do a bunch of work getting the plane ready, but lets not get paid until the brake is released and the door is shut....then lets sit for 3 hours after that waiting for our next flight on company time not getting paid as well. What f'ing moron agreed to that!!!!

Whenever you guys want to assist in solving problems then please jump right up and help. How much of my dues dollars have gone to prop up the puppet RJALPA operators?

I didn't know the mainline pilots were responsible to fix everything wrong with this industry while 1,000's of SJS kids pile into the RJ's.

Actually you might want to refresh your RJ talking points Joe. Southwest has changed their model. They are more hub and spoke than ever before. In fact is has been hampering some of their success.

As Southwest Airlines tries to cope with its success, problems at Midway will get team's attention - Chicago Tribune

The truth is that you could serve those outlying stations with 2-3 mainline planes each day and operate the airline more efficiently and with a better ontime performance than the 6-7 RJ's a day in the market. By using larger planes you get a reduction in the number of operations, freeing up slots, gates, airspace etc. You don't have to worry about the one RJ that takes 30minute delay on the first flight of the day cascading down the line for the next 16 hours of misconnects as it falls farther behind schedule all day long.

Ridding the airline of the non-caring codeshare partner that doesn't treat the passengers very well, has loyalty to the brand and nothing to lose. The code-share group dosen't have a clue about customer service. How many time did you turn the seat belt sign off on your last trip? How many friendly PA's did you make? Most of the times that I am in the back of an RJ the FA is on her first job that gives them any authority. They use the PA as a battering ram of oral diarrhea.

Sorry Joe, but the paradigm has shifted and you may be on the outside looking in when it is all said and done. Should have been nicer to those DL guys you have bashed over the years. Karma is a beaut...or something along those lines.

Not in a "post 69 aircraft removal-economic recession-cost neutral CPA-UAX aircraft on rolling short term contracts that only have one crew base but transit three hubs-UAL crappy scheduling world".

TAFB easily tops 300 hrs on a lot of lines with duty ratios hovering around .55.

Lots of things have changed.
