I learned today that apparently SkyWest had the right of first refusal on that RFP on those CRJ700s. But with SkyWest also losing 4 airframes, they must have seen GoJets low, pathetic bid and couldn't compete with it.

I didn't mean moving up or semi-lateral, I'm talking about starting all over again at a regional after putting in a number of years on crap pay at one regional already. The majority of guys wouldn't do that to themselves again. The reward for doing so just isn't there, ala quick upgrade better job,etc

This industry is a race to the bottom. Comair stood together, attempting to make regional flying a respectable profession. All the critics saying Comair is losing planes because of the strike, well those same planes that Comair lost due to the "strike". Skywest is losing due to what? At some point, all pilots, regional and major need to take a collective stand or we will always be pitted against one and other.

People who are using the regionals as a stepping stone will be willing to work for free.
Really? Which schools? I was an ERAU kid during 07-08, and I remember being a student on a waiting list that was 100+ numbers long.... waiting for an instructor with time available. They were offering signing bonuses in excess of $2,000 for anyone that would sign a 6-month contract. Most of those people signed, then bailed anyway. They simply could not stay properly staffed, even with the bonuses. And compared to most CFI jobs, that was a great one. Best CFI position I ever had, anyway....

I guess Hulas just had more "aces" this time around.

Don't worry Super, I'm trying to help you make your point.

We're on the same page here. The situation at Comair reinforces your earlier statements because our pilots are not leaving in droves to jump to other regionals.

I agree. Pilots are pilots and ANY pilot group would have done the same given the same sitiation. Now, sticking together for the most part.... That is unique.

I am one of those guys. I will not go back to first year pay and bottom of the list at a regional. I am already considering other employment. There is no longer a career progression at ASA. My career has reached a stagnation point. I see no future for me here at ASA. I have about 150-180 people below me after 3.5 years. If (probably will) downgrade and furlough, I will either be furloughed for the second time in 4 years, or kicked down to reserve for infinity. No thank you. Either look for a different kind of flying, non flying related aviation work, or another career. I, as most everyone else, need that PIC time. Not going to get it here, so what's the point of staying?

This view could be taken by some (mostly people that have had really good luck in their careers) as pessimistic. This is now the more realistic view of the regionals to anyone who doesn't have their head up their behind.

I agree with you brotha'. Been here for 5 years myself and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Just got off of 3 weeks of vacation and I did not miss ASA one bit.
