I've talked to a lot of CAL FOs that did the pay to train here back in the day. Nice guys. They have said you will fly your a** off, but isn't that what you want? More hours, not sitting around a crappy crash pad. I know what I am getting into and I choose to enjoy the journey, every poor minute. If you ask me, which no one did, it's an exciting time to be in aviation.

I've already been in the airline biz for 13 years, I've seen lots of mgt changes, and now a major merger. I'm not expecting a parade, just a flying gig that I will take a major pay cut to have. A choice, made freely without enslavement. I hope your career soon reminds you why you began in aviation. Mentor someone, they might remind you why you are in the cockpit in the first place.
. Of course I would love money as well, but we take what we can get.

He is mentoring you by encouraging you NOT to go to gulfstream. A flying "gig" would imply a job that pays a livable wage. You "dont have to take what you can get" if you have a sense of self worth that pays more then 19 dollars an hour.
This is a job, not a hobby.

not to pee on your parade, but not everyone was so unlucky as to be born to come into the airline industry around 2001! Get over it already, you got hosed, move on and stop being that crusty guy on the internet. In the next 10 years your going to see guys/girls in their mid 20s whose Mom/Dad paid for them to go through a fast track aviation program, do a fast track at a regional and sit right seat at a major airline, simply because of supply/demand, but hey man, enjoy being that Dbag captain, that will at least make you feel a little better. Stop hating the player, and at least blame it on the game.

I wasn't anywhere close to this industry in 2001 and I have been lucky in the fact that things have worked out well for me so far. All I did was suggest that the rosey outlook that many have will change once they do this for a little while
