Nope, then its mediation which could go on forever. Dont let them fool you and say we have to sign off on something quick to avoid arbitration. NOT TRUE. This could go on for years and years and years.

TopNotch - The reserve section of our contract needs to be burned. You stated only two of many things that need to change. Ready Reserve for one. Sit at the airport for 8 hours and get paid for 4 hours. I just can't wrap my head around this..? Can you help me understand it? Call to get released... Call me back in an hour to get released... .Bang head here.

Not really defending our reserve system, but we have a 2:1 duty rig (and then 1:1 after 12 hours), so 8 hours of duty equals 4 hours of pay.

It's really no different than training pay... 8 hours in the sim or in class pays 4 hours. I assume XJT gets paid 1:1 for training time?

That being said, I'd love to see 4 hours of pay for 4 hours of ready reserve in the new contract, however as others brought up, the same amount of ready reserve hours will need to be covered. So, twice as many people will end up sitting ready reserve. On the ASA side of the house, they have several crews overlapping on ready reserve from about 0600-2400 daily. I'm not sure how XJT schedules theirs.

Training pay is protected, and is never scheduled on days off unless you volunteer to do so. If you are scheduled for a recurrent event, let's say three days of ground school, the company would remove a trip, and pay protect you for it. If you had an 18 hr 3 day, you're getting paid 18 hrs. If you're on reserve, there is no trip to protect and you would get paid 3.75 per day.

ASA guys on reserve...you can kiss 8hr ready reserve goodbye. That sh!t is just cruel punishment that nobody should have to deal with.

Absolutely, there are many things that need to be burned. The "call in policy" when your finished with a trip on reserve is awful. Finish a trip, and you haven't been notified, RELEASED, back to reserve.

There are so many things that need to change. Its particularly bad for the reserve guys.

As for what i said 'arbitration', I was mistaken. I was thinking mediation. A third party will not help us and drive us further apart as a group.

That third party mediator appointed by the National Mediation Board can be helpful. But that person, nor anyone else can compel either party what to do nor arbitrarily impose any contract. There is nothing for us to lose or fear in the process that has been set up for these negotiations. If the pilots vote down a TA, it goes back to the negotiators. If either MEC doesn't like the TA, it goes back to the negotiators. If the JNC and company can't get a TA, it goes nowhere until they get a TA. There is NO timeline.

As much I would love to see a ready reserve period getting cut to 4 hours, I understand we can't get everything we want. That being said, there is no reason why we can't adopt the contract provisions of first ready reservist not having to show up until the earliest duty in at the base and being automatically released after the last flight is airborne. It is really frustrating when there are no flights on the board and they still refuse to release you. (not that that keeps me from making my way out of the airport) If they need airplanes moved around the airport or ferried, they can call nap reserve peeps.

If they are going to make us call them, we need to have some sort of language in the contract that says after so many minutes on hold, we can assume that we are released. Or, they can adjust our time on duty and TAFB until we are actually released.

On the ERJ side...reserves do not need to call. Scheduling can assign another leg within 15 minutes after you've blocked in. If nothing within 15 minutes, you are automatically released.

I understand. I'm totally in favor of your system. I'm saying we need to include those provisions IF we still have to call them under the new JCBA.
