Hiring will go like it does in every major hiring cycle- it will start at a trickle and as things get spooled up go to a major boom. Just look at the retirement numbers and projected fleet count.
I hope your right. I have started to become pessimistic. Lookng at our mandatory retirements over the next 5 years I don't see anything earth shattering. Especially if we continue to get MIL, SIC, and FUR pilots coming back. Glad people are able to come back but it does slow things down for us.

MIL has depleted to probably its minimum level. There's only 200 that are out now.

SIC (long term sick leave for non delta people).... well, that's going to always be in flux.

FUR (furlough bypass)- There are 203 left on bypass after 12 years on the street. How many of those will actually come back? We'll see. I believe my neighbor is going to come back, so that's 1. He's currently head of the flight department at GA Power.

I'm itching for hiring to start as well, but make sure you keep it logical and not emotional. Hiring needs to happen even moreso for the DCI people affected by the shift of scope balance that is 10 months away from going into full swing.

One 777 costs much more than $60 mil.

In the 1980's NWA lost millions on a route just because the CEO wanted fresh grapefruits. Airline's **** away money like nothing. I will say Comair tarnished Delta's image over the years, that had to play a role. Company imagine is almost as important as safety at Delta, profits are third.

Could it be that DL will squeeze a low budget, low cost regional until they end up like May-suh, then on to the next one?

This is like watching a mob flick. Make 'em an offer they can't refuse.
