Upgrade times aren't going back up anytime soon. Remember, Republic just got rid of tons of E145s and Q400s - that's gonna make your upgrade times go up.
But that's all done now and in the past, Republic's performance has been very good and nobody expects any loss of flying- for that matter it seems like UA and Delta wants us to do more flying, but we can't commit to more until we can hire more pilots.

United still has an additional 12 new ejets scheduled for delivery that are unassigned. With the chapter 11 bankruptcy going away soon, maybe hiring will pick up some more and we can get those airplanes too. That would be a nice surprise if it happened.

Base and equipment have no impact on upgrade time at SKW, it's only DOH.

Anything's possible. In fact, seniority gains and upgrades should have stagnated for the past 12 months. The only reason we didn't stagnate much was that we were so understaffed going into chapter 11. Now that we are recovering those lost E170s under a more normal staffing situation, it feels like growth. Additionally, the union predicts a total attrition of 400-500 people with greater than one year seniority in 2017. (Source - a union steward I flew with a while ago). If that holds true, upgrade times should continue to drop.

Why might they increase again? The seniority list shows a pretty sizable hiring jump in 2016. If all 342 of those people stay, 2017 hires and beyond will see upgrade times of several months longer than 2015 hires. Historically, though, our first-year FO retention isn't that good and those guys are almost all still in their first year. Many people bail if they don't get off reserve or get the base they want fairly quickly, which might be an answer to your second question.

2013 hires: 169
2014 hires: 153
2015 hires: 193
2016 hires: 342

What's keeping RAH from being a great place to work? That's a great question and probably depends on your situation. If you need to get off reserve quickly in an outstation base, be careful. I had my one-year anniversary last fall and I'm still on reserve in CMH. I honestly don't care as min guarantee is enough for me and I get to sit at home in my jeans 16-20 days a month. But for some, that could be a problem.

Other problems that hurt our quality of life are hotels that change constantly, schedules that include SUPER long sits (up to 3.5 hours is common), and for those in outstations, very early first day shows and late last day finishes. There are problems at headquarters, also. If you need help with scheduling, travel, payroll, etc., make sure you are self-advocating and follow up with them or it just might not happen for you.

RAH is what you make it. If you have a specific quality of life/income/career goal objective in mind, your regional job search will be much easier. If RAH fits those goals, it's a great place to work. I am very happy here and recommend new 121 folks apply to Republic. But it's not the best airline for every situation.

You bid for and get 12 guaranteed days off each month as reserve. If you don't get called, it's just a bonus day "off." You will only receive minimum day pay credit for that day if you were actually on an assignment, however.
