Noting April bid, is it Covid that is putting the West back into Skywest? That company or partner driven?

This is a well-observed phenomena... cooped-up people who want to get out of the house are flocking to western destinations which offer numerous outdoor activities which are healthy, fun, and socially distant.

While telecommuters can work from almost anywhere, they typically can't work from a moving car on a multi-day road-trip. So they zoom in the morning, take the afternoon off to jump on a flight, and pick back up the next day with nobody the wiser. As opposed to blowing multiple vacation days to drive.

Other airlines are seeing the same.

Looks like we got a thick skin guy over here.
Tell us your hardships, you are among friends.
What’s wrong with being a realist? I don’t understand the need to coddle in this situation.

Quote: I don't want to make my identity too obvious on here. But I am on my second career. And female. And despite all the **** that's happened since I became a pilot, I still prefer aviation to the last career. This assumption is off. I apologize for an idealistic post that made me look naive. I can see that doesn't fly on the forums. Please stop roasting me.
Make yourself a favor and drop the "female" thing. All people will care about in the cockpit is if you're a good pilot, a good crew member and professional. Those 3 things, no race no gender.

Quote: I think some weaker pilots targeted the 175 thinking the fly-o-matic would help them. As far as all new hires going into the CRJ it will make furlough cheaper and easier if they can drain the (likely to be) parked fleet.
Sorry what fleet is likely to be parked? SkyWest is adding CRJ200, CRJ700, and ERJ175 airframes to the fleet in 2021.

Skywest is not *adding* 200s. 500 pilot jobs worth of 200s went to storage with covid, if we pull some back out we are still negative.
Everyone likes a good internet debate but I think most would see the CRJ as the more likely fleet to shrink.

it’s kore of OO is moving 200’s from DL to UA and adding 700 for AA. Still about 40 aircraft growth at the end of 2021. Plus 30 leaving a month.. newhire but June is my intel...

Just curious but where are 30/month going?

The LCCs hiring haven’t started running classes yet. Everyone going to ACMI?

I mean I’d bet at least a few are finding jobs outside the industry.

Not adding 200s.... except for the ones that keep showing up with PSA tail numbers....

And of the 55 that came off contract with DL, 36 of those are filtering through the paint shops and showing up on line in new UA paint. I think you also forgot that TSA and ExpressJet got shut down and it’s up to OO and C5 to backfill that void as soon as things recover. And we all know C5 doesn’t have the resources to spool up quick. The other 19 went back to Pinnacolaba.

SkyWest has also added several new EAS routes on the deuce in the last 12 months that they will still have to fly as demand returns. JST, RST, MCW, FOD, ALS, VCT, etc

As soon as things come back, DL is going to be begging OO to find some 550s for them to fly from DTW to IND, and OO will say something to the effect of “sorry, you didn’t renew the leases on the 700s that we were flying for you, so we placed them with another carrier, oh and there are literally 0 CRJ 700s on the planet for sale right now, sorry. We can fly a deuce on that route for you though?” And Delta will begrudgingly accept because they are maxed out on scope, their bonds are rated as junk, and they need to exploit every source of potential profit.

This industry is cyclical and SkyWest is the only airline that seems to understand and prepare for not only the downturn but also the upturn.

When a mainline CEO like Ed or Scott open their mouth you need to understand that what they are doing is something called lip service and that they have no real commitment to what they are saying, especially when they forecast the death of the 50 seater which has been done numerous times already in the last decade before the virus.
