An accident doesn't have to be fatal to be an accident. Either there is or there isn't pilot error that's all that matters. The rest comes down to luck a lot of the time. AMR, DAL, CAL have all landed on taxiways just off the top of my head. There were no fatalities but the potential definitely existed and that's all that matters. Sometimes it's another crew that saves the day and keeps everyone alive but the incident still happens. If you want to look at complete safety then you need to look past the whole accident/deaths thing and go with the potential for these to occur. Sometimes fate just helps out. While there were no deaths were associated with this incident it still goes in the pile of huge NO NOs.


Like I said I can't want to see what the findings are but unless there's a fire or dual engine failure I can't imagine using a taxiway on purpose especially with 4 runways. If something was on the runway then go missed. I'm with the 6 eyeball crowd. Fly the plane first even if everyone in the back is shooting monkey's out of their backside.

This thread has typically degenerated into juvenile squabbling. This is supposed to be a forum for Airline Pilots, of all types and those who aspire to the profession. I have met many great people that chose to be pilots in my career. It was the character in the person that made the pilot someone I wanted to emulate for my own path. They quietly listened and learned and took the steps when confident and qualified.
The anonymous aviators pecking at each other here are a disgrace to my profession. If a regional airline pilot is feeling smug about misfortune coming to a major airline crew, great. My contact with you will be limited to this forum, because you will never with that attitude advance beyond where you are now. If a major airline pilot thinks he has inherited the seventh ring of consciousness by changing employers, I'm sure there will be a humbling opportunity akin to yesterday's waiting for you.

This is pathetic, and shame on most of you for you're petty bickering about who's manhood is larger. Is there a double standard? Would a regional pilot get bashed? Maybe, maybe not. I'd hope there would be just as many people saying wait till the facts come out, but even if they were to get bashed, WHO CARES! It's almost like you regional guys have been foaming at the jowls for something like this to happen, and you're actually excited to attack mainline.

And this isn't coming from a mainline pilot. This is coming from a guy who had the time to go regional, yet decided to get experience, and instruct, and fly junk airplanes 135 single pilot for the experience. Most importantly, this is coming from a guy that is quite frankly, embarrassed for you.

My overall point was that the experience level at Legacy's is higher then that at Regionals. I find it difficult to even argue the fact, especially with the thousands of pilots hired at Regionals over the past 6 years, many of those pilots with less then ATP minimums.

I never intended to imply that Legacy pilots are better, or that they don't make mistakes. Many people missed my point, and assumed I was taking some holier than thou attitude. That is waaaaay off base. As usual, people have turned this into pilots against pilots, rather then supporting each other. It's no wonder this industry has gone down the toilet.
