I think that captainv is right. If you are honest with the Atlas people, I imagine that they will understand. I doubt they expect you to hang out unemployed for an indefinite period of time waiting for them to call. Maybe you will burn the bridge with the LCC, but it is a bridge you don't want to recross anyway. All airlines know that this happens. It is part of the business. Nonetheless, I understand your concern. I hope it works out the way you want it!

Captain, Chairman... Thanks for the advice. It's what I expected but one never can tell in this business. Here's hoping we all end up where we want to be!

Quote: I am waiting patiently on a call from Atlas and have been offered a March 4 class date at another carrier, a domestic LCC as it happens. Atlas is my first choice; the job I have been offered is not. The only thing I can see that is expected of me from the offered job is for me to resign my position with my previous (furloughed) carrier, which I would have no qualm doing. I have no feel for how competitive I am with Atlas as they seem to be picking people with varied backgrounds, but I came from an ACMI carrier and that is the career and lifestyle I prefer.
My concern is that I will receive a call sometime shortly after I commence training March 4. Realizing that I would be "burning a bridge" with the LCC, I am wondering how it would be seen by the folks hiring at Atlas if I am able to get invited to interview.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Highly profitable 2012 year.

Atlas has 3 747 BCFs. Those aircraft are the least efficient 747 aircraft in the fleet. One BCF (that Atlas owns outright) is being temporarily parked this month.

The other two are leased. They will be returned at the end of their leases in 2014 and 2015.

All subject to change with market demand.

I'm in the same boat. ACMI has been my life and preference till I retire. Atlas is my first choice and I'm suppose to leave Monday for a class with a domestic carrier. If I ever get a call while in training, I'll step into the hall and take the phone interview and hope the interview dates are on a day off. It would be a tough decision to leave training for an Atlas interview though, as you're not guaranteed a job. I don't think Atlas will look negative towards your decision, but if not hired, you may be "burning a bridge" with any other airline you interview with. It would be tough to explain leaving a job to interview with another. Good luck.

I got a message for an initial screening while I was overseas- called back, left a couple messages- no call back yet.

Any advice other than be patient?

Thx!
I had something very similar happen. They called on a Friday afternoon and I didn't get the message until after the close of business. I called early Monday morning and left a message. Heard nothing for nearly 10 days, then today they called and left a message saying they were swamped trying to fill 60 FA slots last week and was very apologetic it took so long to return my call. I'd say be patient, they will likely be calling soon, if they haven't already.

60 FA slots...holy cow, Batman, what the heck is going on?

9000 pilot apps - hiring 200 - is that a 1 in 45 or 2-3% chance of being hired?

I suspect that FA turnover is very high.
