Quote: Question on those aircraft orders, deferrals, etc... for those of us that are new to civilian flying.

It looks like the company has 38 aircraft on order through 2018. Can they defer any of these (like they just did recently with other aircraft)? Can they cancel any of these?

The higher ups at the interview made it seem like the E190s on the books for delivery later, will never see the light of day.

Just looking to learn more about the order process, and take any predictions.
In the airline biz, an order isn't "fulfilled" until you've done a revenue leg in it. Of course that's mostly tongue in cheek, but yeah, any aircraft that a company hasn't taken delivery of can essentially be delayed indefinitely. (My best guess is that the order can't be canceled once there is paint on the airplane, but even then, I'm sure there's a cancellation fee that can be paid if you want out of the order bad enough).

Aircraft orders are definitely not set in stone. They can be deferred, accelerated, canceled, or even sell the delivery slots to another airline. Manufacturers want repeat business, so they dont usually have any big financial penalties for airlines shifting around their order book. Cencal hit the nail on the head by saying dont believe it until youre actually flying it.

The E190 deliveries are so far in the future, and Embraer has even stated they won't be producing the regular version of the E190 after 2018. Id be shocked if we do actually receive those aircraft, and if we do it will be for replacements of the current E190s (and probably reduce the overall size of the E190 fleet).

Quote: I wouldn't go that far. The last few classes have been split 190/320. So getting JFK/BOS will probably happen it might be 190/320 based on age and class needs.
In the current class age 44 would put you at seniority number 11. (Out of 34). Youngest is 28.

Quote: In the last system bid there was 60 190 slots between BOS/JFK. Those are currently being filled with new hires. The next system bis is December and I would assume more 190 guys will upgrade/transfer to the 320. So classes will still be split between the 190/320.
When is the System Bid scheduled to open in December? Any idea of us 12/4 new hires will be able to bid?

It will probably come out on 12/5. I believe that is the same day you guys will be picking aircraft/bases. Usually the newhire classes in training are allowed to bid on the leftovers after the system bid closes.

That's exactly what the Nov class was told.

Is there a system bid for every newhire class?

No only 4 per year, unless they need a Supplemental bid (pretty rare). The system bids open the first full week of March, June, September, December and close 1 week later. They allow pilots to switch bases, transition to different equipment, upgrade/downgrade, etc.
