This can be good for the FB, but it can also be very very bad (at least until Jan 1). The DHer can be put in coach for the 8 hour trip back to MIA.

That changes Jan 1, when business-or-better is required for Deep South (and other long flights).

Very true. AAL is a bet, and on the inside several declarations made as nothing short of gospel have never come to pass. To some degree, this is going to happen everywhere, but I'd hope to minimize it in my life if I was able to. Just in the past replies guys are talking about stuff like great schedules flying the JFK-LHR two day on the 777. You wouldnt base your entire career choice on this small tidbit of info but guess what, said sequence is gone for 2014…things change at an alarming rate. And when the middle east big three demand US flying in exchange for huge aircraft purchases, I might not be so high on the US big three international flying which I currently do. SW would be more insulated I would guess.

I do have a dog in this show, so I hope the new american thrives like never before. I am glad I went with the first and only carrier I interviewed with, the "what ifs" would have killed me by now.

2) For the guys that my be salivating over it now waiting to be hired, life events could change, domicile shifts, getting comfortable, whatever and the gleam in the eye of doing the WB/int'l may just wane/fall by the wayside.
Absolutely true. Before we all (me included) drifted badly off topic, the emphasis was on long term choices over a career, being defined as decades of flying, whereby the WB stuff was an eventual option, rather than 100% domestic NB for life.

A guy could find the niche he enjoys.

Comparing the two (at the bottom)... What do the seniority improvement look like at each? Not necessarily a race to upgrade, but more for improved QOL considerations?

Based strictly on Age 65 retirements, advancement - whether to QOL, larger airframes, or the left seat - would be dramatically faster at the new AA than at SWA. The SWA pilot group is significantly younger with a more "tepid" pace to retirements in the next decade or so.

Also don't forget that if hired at swa, you'll continue to be pushed to the bottom by AirTran pilots. How many are left to be integrated, several hundred? Ouch. Expect bottom of the seniority list for years. AA all the way, I say.

I think there are actually about 1400 left to transition.

Oh... Em.... Gee!!!! 1400!!! Ok so if you get hired now at swa, your seniority continues to go down by 1400. That's the exact opposite of AA, where your seniority would increase by at least 1500 in 3 years.

I believe in basketball they would call that a 2,900 point switch.

Umm, the seniority list is already out and set in stone. All new hires will obviously go to the bottom of the list.
