Bottom of SWA or bottom of new American?

AA actually has many 757 Brazil flights that fly all night down but fly a day trip back. Recife, Salvador, Brasilia, and Asuncion. Leave around 2300 arrive 0800... Return leaves around 0900 and arrives around 1700. Pretty decent from what I'm told. Best of all, it's a 3 man operation on the flights down but the IRO deadheads back on the return.
That changes Jan 1, when business-or-better is required for Deep South (and other long flights).

I do have a dog in this show, so I hope the new american thrives like never before. I am glad I went with the first and only carrier I interviewed with, the "what ifs" would have killed me by now.

That's one of the VERY important points of the whole NB/domestic vs. WB comparisons going on here;
1) It may take a while to see that. As I mentioned, all the guys talking it up (especially at AA/UAL) with the amount of furloughs/stagnation WEREN'T born in that seat seniority.
2) For the guys that my be salivating over it now waiting to be hired, life events could change, domicile shifts, getting comfortable, whatever and the gleam in the eye of doing the WB/int'l may just wane/fall by the wayside.

A guy could find the niche he enjoys.

Based strictly on Age 65 retirements, advancement - whether to QOL, larger airframes, or the left seat - would be dramatically faster at the new AA than at SWA. The SWA pilot group is significantly younger with a more "tepid" pace to retirements in the next decade or so.

Also don't forget that if hired at swa, you'll continue to be pushed to the bottom by AirTran pilots. How many are left to be integrated, several hundred? Ouch. Expect bottom of the seniority list for years. AA all the way, I say.

I think there are actually about 1400 left to transition.

Oh... Em.... Gee!!!! 1400!!! Ok so if you get hired now at swa, your seniority continues to go down by 1400. That's the exact opposite of AA, where your seniority would increase by at least 1500 in 3 years.
I believe in basketball they would call that a 2,900 point switch.
