Quote: Line pilots have very little input in hiring decisions, because of this very reason. This is why HR professionals vet hiring decisions, and not pilots.
Well, just disregard that United pilot conducting the interview with HR then. Or, maybe you shouldn't. 50/50 vote
Quote: An airline’s FOM is an agreement with their employees how day to day operations are to be conducted. If you are in noncompliance with your company’s own FOM and the FAA witnesses it, you can face regulatory action against you specifically. UALPA’s new JS priority rules are not reciprocal with Skywest, Republic or Mesa. Meaning, the new rules have not been reflected in SkyWest’s, Republic’s or Mesa’s FOM. So, allowing UAL or UAX-E pilots into the jumpseat or letting them list and then be placed in the cabin is in direct violation of the FOM for those airlines. I, for one, will not risk my license and career for this. So, I will not allow UAL or UAX-E pilots onboard until an agreement is reciprocal and properly reflected in my FOM. I left the corporate world not to deal with happy horse ****** like this, but it is what it is. Personally, I will feel horrible every time I have to do it, because we are all pilots just trying to get home or to work, but it has nothing to do with “not being welcome” as some have posted here. It’s regulatory in nature and now it’s in the hands of the pilot associations. Until then just list for non-rev travel on the affected carriers.
The thing is, your and SAPAs interpretation of whether this logic above means you are violating FARs is specious. If only as a pilot group we had the resources of expert attorneys to be able to sort through that and give us guidance...
Quote: Remember Comair? That’s the path SkyWest is going down. Enjoy the ride. You are kicking a hornets nest for absolutely ridiculous reasons and look like a bunch of children. Good luck.
An insightful statement that shows your lack of knowledge of Comair's properties and financial position in the airline industry at the time. If you'd like to make a point, please, do directly cite some information to backup your claim.

Oh southwest does the exact same thing, and the list is published for everyone. What I’m saying is if that the pilot conducting the interview is only one part. If he says no, and tells HR “hey this guy is on the Skywest Jumpseat list”. HR will not allow that to be used in the hiring decision.
Quote: You really believe the certificate action threats coming from SAPA? They are using that to force you guys to acquiesce.
So, working outside your company’s FOM is ok? We can choose what we want to obey and what not to?

If you go 45 down a residential street is it reckless driving? Yup. Is it illegal? Sure is. Will you get a ticket if a cop isn’t there? Nope. This is the same thing. Do FAA inspectors have bigger fish to fry than seeing if JS priority rules in the FOM is being complied with? Absolutely. But, the one day with just the right FAA inspector whose girlfriend’s Pomeranian just pooped on their brand new carpet that morning, you could get busted for operating outside your FOM. Who will stand up for me? The jumpseater that quietly tip toes away from the scene? You guys on this forum? You guys will be like, “Wow that really happened? Sucks to be you, man. Sorry.”

You must not understand the pilots role in interviews. The pilot is there to also evaluate the interviewees personality to see if they’re a good fit for the pilot culture. IOW “would I want to do a 4 day trip with this person”.

Why would United want to hire a person who has already shown they don’t play well with UAL pilots??? HR understands that.
First day back at work and have had two United guys come up to me (one on the parking bus, one in KCM line) tell me to take my applications out because I’ll never work with them at UAL.

Like they were the owners right. If in a hypothetical future interview, I get a big NO just because I come from Skywest...then I'll go somewhere else where they actually are good professionals and focus on my personality/knowledge/skills, period.

Take their names. If you had another pilot you know witness it, get their information to corroborate a statement.

What childish behavior on their part, not sure where they think that's going to get them. Don't see why people can't just be civil.

HA! HA! You guys pick a fight and now you are upset when they swing back.
