I'm always afraid of busting a checkride, even though I've never failed one. But fear is a great motivator for me, and I study my ass off for every training event despite my past record of success.

But I will say after passing several large SkyWest training events (EMB initial, CRJ initial, and CRJ upgrade), the training here is fantastic. If one were to fail at SkyWest, it's very unlikely they would succeed elsewhere. They give you every tool to be successful, and more than enough sim time. If you fail here, you should very seriously reconsider a career in 121 in my opinion...

So it looks like I'm joining the family at SkyWest. CRJ class date of July 27th. Im an SLC local but know that it is going to be a pain to hold anything in SLC right out of training. I have family with a house in Morro Bay (close to KSBP) or I have a friend with a house in Pasadena that I can crash at if I was on reserve in LA. Wanted to know how junior SBP and LAX were going and if there was any chance getting either of them right out of class?

Also just a side note... Jeremy had said during the interview that it was looking like first year pay would be around the $30/hr by the time we were getting ready for IOE... any rumors on this?

$30/hr is what they want but they are not offering anything to the rest of the pilot group. If the pay package is anything like the last it won't pass.

SBP is no longer a crew base.

LAX is pretty quick to get given how long it takes to get through training. You'll probably be there by xmas

At a non-union airline, no one other than the director of flight ops would know the actual number. At a union airline, a pilot getting fired is an automatic grievance, to at least review the circumstances to the firing. So the union has actual data that they provide, if any pilot asks. Of course, management doesn't want to advertise how many pilots get fired every year. You also want to think of it this way, how much does a pilot do, compared to a union pilot group, in order to stay in good graces of management? In other words, how much does management get away with in the form of pilot pushing because of the pilots' non-union status. When management can easily just tell pilots that they will now be strictly monitored by occ in compliance with new flight operating restrictions, it says a lot about whay else may be going on behind the scenes or just on a one on one basis between pilot and the chief pilots office. These things are kept very low key and very subtle by management for obvious reasons. As for pay, you certainly arent at the bottom but with the enormous success this airline has had for decades, you shouldn't be in the middle of the pack either. Lastly, there are other choices for west coast flying, even in the regional sector, such as Compass and Horizon.

Sorry to burst your bubble but SBP is closed with the Brasilia gone. I would not count on LAX anytime soon.

These types of disputes like DD's don't happen at a union carrier because the pilots have a recourse. There is a process in place in which the pilot doesn't have to worry about being fired and having to pay out of pocket to try to get his job back. If skywest was union when that happened, DD wouldn't have been fired to begin with, let alone have to pay for his own defense.

Funny how nevets cares so much about the day to day ops at Skywest when he works at Expressjet. From a few years ago saying we don't have a "real asap" program to having all this inner knowledge and workings in sapa and any discipline against pilots. Nevets posts more on the Skywest boards than actual pilots that work here. It is quite comical to watch. You sure you don't want to come over to the dark side? Maybe you could show us the ways...
