I can't discuss specifics but SkyWest is not going from 45 EMBs to 39 just because of the runway closure in SFO this summer. Expect all 45 EMBs to be flying their tails off all summer. There is strategic planning in place for SFO but it wont be initially obvious. I think everyone will start to figure out when they see it for themselves.

The EMB is the second most profitable aircraft in the fleet, and you dont just park 15% of them for a few months. I hope that helps it make more sense.

I understand that they'll tell us this during new hire training, but what do you do about a headset when you're flying? Does each pilot have to buy his/her own? Any requirements for certain types, or any recommendations on buying one?

Thanks in advance

Yes. You'll need your own headset. I've seen pretty much all of them on line and you'll probably go through a few before you find what you like. Start with what you have and ask around.

Popular headsets include:

U-Fly-Mike
Bose
Clarity Aloft
Telex

even DCs.

Any recent RJ new hires on here with training material? Could you PM me?

Thanks brother. Can't start with what I have, because it's an Air Force issued helmet and mask...

Thoughts on traditional headset versus the lightweight models? Noise cancelling - active or passive? Not sure how loud an airliner cockpit is

If you can afford it, hands down the Bose A20... Nothing else I've tried even comes close!

But, you must admit....if you showed up to your first IOE trip wearing the full helmet and mask, your legend would never be forgotten in the annals of Skywest...

John Im on the Bro and I fly with the Bose A20. I also flew on the B1900 with it and the headset is worth the money ($1200) for the turboprops. I attempted to fly with passive Dave Clarks in the beginning and at the end of the day I was fried.

If you're gonna be on the CRJ that's probably a whole different story. Im sure some of the jet guys can chime in.

When do you start class? Bro or CRJ?

Just saw that March '14 hire got awarded the 175. Be careful of bidding it though if you are new. It could succumb you to a long time on reserve when senior FO's figure out where they'll stand.

Looks like the June bid packet shows the 175 going to ATL, MSP, BOS, LGA, and DCA. All out of ORD.
