Reminds me of the days when I trained helo pilots. They would show up to fly an R22 and be wearing helmets. Looked like two Bobble heads bouncing off each other competing for ego. uh I mean space.

Does SkyWest require that headsets be TSO approved/compliant? I have a set of Lightspeed Zulu's that I really like, but aren't on the TSO list.

If I am correctly interpreting FAA guidance, TSO is recommended, not required, but some airlines have elected to adopt this standard for their SOP.

You're fine. I've been using Zulus for three years and two different types here.

No TSO for SkyWest, most of us use UFlyMike (the unTSOd one)

For the love of God turn up the gain on your mic! 9 times out of 10 ATC says "say again" it's because someone was using a UFlyMike!

Also, I think long ago there were only two specifically authorized headsets in the SOP. A Telex and a David Clark if I remember right. But I can't find that written anywhere anymore so I think it's gone.

The latest fleet plan filed with the 1Q results shows that 5 will be leaving by the end of the year. They commented that they were 'natural' retirements. However, I heard that they aren't enforcing the seat locks for the Bro Fo's and let them transition to RJ training early and the last two 120 classes have been cancelled and turned into RJ classes.

Is this because you are beginning to have some trouble filling classes for the RJ or other reasons? Are you all seeing a lot of attrition that would finally create some movement? Would love to get a shot there but just can't see myself commuting to reserve in a junior base for 18 months or whatever it may be now.

Other reasons. Last classes had 100% show up. Staffing has always been fluid here, demands change and if there aren't enough people with a bid in for a seat they have lifted seat locks on many many occasions. Construction in SFO this summer is going to be a real pain in the operational butt, and staffing needs on the EMB for the time being are going to be lower than before, meanwhile we are adding, not losing CRJs + E175s. Also, attrition is picking up here and there, though not exactly an avalanche, and the number of captain upgrades on the jet was increased for June as compared to the last few years of class sizes. I can't speak to "commuting to reserve in a junior base...whatever" but time on reserve in MSP and ORD (junior bases) is remarkably short these days with the increased seasonal flying.
