I've said for years (along with many others) that SkyW would do itself a huge favor by moving out of SGU. Being able to attract real corporate talent by being located in a 'real' city instead of the local flavor would be enormous. I simply don't think we can continue to run a billion dollar company out of SGU. At least if they are serious about the future of the company.
Chances of this happening of course are slim. I did have a nice chuckle at the BOI rumor though

Now this is a rumor I can get behind. It would fix some issues pretty much overnight as long as the dead wood didn't travel with 'em.

SkyWest became the largest operator of aircraft in the world, now second only to American Airlines Group, from tiny little St. George. Looks like the ability to run a successful, multi-billion dollar corporation really isn't as tough as you want to make it sound. I think there's a corporation in a town called Bentonville, AR that would be better served to move their HDQ, too, right?

You're welcome. I mean, if Wal-Mart can do it, why not SkyWest? Besides...since you are all "going on to bigger and better things" as soon as possible, why do you care where HDQ is? Or the caliber of executives running the show? Collect a paycheck, accumulate your time, and move on....right?

If every employee had a "screw this place I plan to move on" attitude the company would fail pretty fast. Look at Expressjet and Endeavor.
I'm not sure why that even has to be explained to you. Are you really that sheltered?

There's no reason why they'd need to move! You guys seriously have one of the best run (financially) airlines out there! I don't think you guys really want what you call "best corporate talent".... Those are the people who make 1.5 billion in profits and then demand that you take huge concessions because you are too expensive! (See AAG).... You really don't know how well your company is run...

Having HDQ in small old SGU definitely makes business traveling more costly. I guess to some extent they cant attract from as large of a pool of talent as say LA, NYC or ORD. But you need to realize that the costs of being in such a place offset the savings. Average wages for even the lowest position would be required to be much higher to offset cost of living and hire competitively. The tax burden in Utah and SGU is very low, and the city caters to them like a groupie, it being one of the largest employers. Also, if they move they are going to have to spend tens of millions on construction and real estate, or a fat lease payment. Considering they've been on 444 S River Rd for near 30 years means something. I assume its payed for, only (cheap) property tax. Or they could be like UA and rent a chunk of the Sears tower. It would also cost millions to move all your stuff from A to be B.
At the low end jobs, wages there are equal to FA first yr pay, and usually have pretty good employees for that kind of wage, because there aren't that many other jobs. CS is what it is, you dont need a bachelors in Communication. Middle management is mostly promoted within and might be less talented. Top end jobs the talent is high, they know how to scout well. Just look at the results.
Its not moving. Also consider some non-business factors. The Atkins are some of the original settlers of SGU, CC was born and raised in CDC, nearly all the upper management went to college in Utah. They all got their mansions built, and families established into the community. Again, not moving.

Headquarters isn't moving.
And for what they pay those working in St. George, they wouldn't be finding cheaper employees elsewhere.

Wait, I thought that was XJT? Or are we one company with one CEO?
One List!Because people have pride in their job regardless of what their future plans are. I've taken my job seriously and wanted the company to succeed at all of the little odd minimum wage jobs I've worked in my life. Skywest is no different. Despite the fact that I will leave Skywest I still have pride in my job and want the company to improve.

Just to add, xjt was not like that before Skywest bought us. So I see what you mean. But once you stop worrying about how others know how crappy your airline is now, the less you think about it and put more energy towards getting out. That's not to say that you shouldn't give your job the honest day's work and stay professional.

Well, our CEO did just that. Demanded huge concessions. Luckily we voted no to those concessions.
