There's nothing wrong with a guy wanting single occupancy. At most other airlines it's the norm. when I was new at Eagle in '91 as a newbie, we got single occupancy as standard policy, and it never changed over there for new hires. They never had to double up, and they never had to pay for their own room.
This isn't undergrad college where you share a room. You are paid professionals and deserve to have your own room for training. I'm not sure how or why you folks can justify double occupancy and dress the guy down because he actually wants to be treated like an adult.

Share a room, suck it up, move on.

Totally different.
You need to open your eyes.

Listen....
Its a smart business decision for the company to do it in two parts.
1. It saves them cash. Simple enough and you could stop right there.
2. You now have two people in close contact who can use each other to study. The small majority of time this doesn't work out is worth the positive outcome if it does work. Worse case scenario you get your own room because it doesn't work out.
If you want a single because you want "leisure time" or so you can be away from everyone you should expect to get a little ribbing for it.
Staying in a room with someone else doesn't make you "less professional".
Kids these days.......

This type of rationalization and thought process, is at the core of everything that is wrong in the regional airline industry.
You are part of the problem. With this type of thinking nothing ever improves.

1) It saves the company cash.
So what?!?! You know what would also save the company cash? Not paying for hotel rooms at all. Not paying a salary while in training. Would you support that too? Just because it "saves them cash"? How about double occupancy for all overnights for everybody your entire career at SKW? Following your logic, that should be OK too.
News Flash, Its the not pilots' responsibility to save the company money. I'm pretty sure SkyWest is now the ONLY regional left forcing grown adult professionals to bunk-up with complete strangers. This ain't college folks.
2) You don't need to share a bedroom and sleep 5 feet away from your classmate to be "close contact" to study. Seriously? That's just dumb. If you want a study partner, walk out of your room, and go knock on your neighbors door 10 feet away.
Staying in a room with someone else doesn't make you "less professional".
Yes, that's the exact message it sends. That you're not worth the $$, and the company is too cheap to treat you like an adult and provide you with your own room.

But please, continue defending the company, while making personal insults in every post.

Frankly having my own room in training never concerned me. I'm more frustrated with pay. Why are our brethren at Envoy and Endeavor being paid $20k retention bonuses while we are not? How about we address that issue. New hires will flock to the AA wholly owneds now (it's already happening FYI). And lets not delude ourselves our latest classes have not been seeing the same impressive numbers as they were a few months before summer...so I've heard.
