Skywest v2.0

This time of year you are always going to see mainline creep into certain markets to meet demand. Yes, Delta has shuffled the west coast quite a bit as it tries to pinpoint what markets can support what with all the new routes they are taking on. A lot cheaper to slap RJ's on certain routes to see what the market dictates before making a move for larger, more expensive aircraft to do the flying.
Historically fuel has been the biggest cost factor of the operation. When we burn 50-60% more fuel on a 737-900 than a 175 but carry more than twice as many pax it becomes more enticing to upgage.
Quite frankly we burn almost as much gas on the 737-700 ( a bit more) than an e175 and carry 40 more pax. Therefore, the higher legacy costs are easier to absorb. You add that to the fact that we got the 65 737-700 for a ham sandwich, mainline upgaging becomes more probable for the long term.

FDX guy (former skywest) chiming in.
No job is perfect but recently there has been at least one SWA guy in many of our new hire classes. And there hasn't been one FDX guy in a SWA new hire class in (forever?).

I think people that opt out of southwest are frustrated by lack of movement, it's a very young pilot group by comparison to other places and they aren't getting much growth anymore.

Hey guys new hire CRJ here(in class). May be getting junior manned into the ERJ. I know the ERJ reserve is awful right now but what is the consensus on what it will look like in 6ish months with all of the new planes coming on line? Anyone know what the junior bases will be? Was really looking forward to all of the movement on the CRJ but **** happens.

I appreciate the reply. Hopefully we can get some other folks to chime in. They're making me think I have a choice right now. If I actually do have a choice which is the smart move? I know I could use the search function but they want to figure something out in the morning so I'd appreciate some quick input.

E175 went really junior for FOs in denver too in the last bid. Right now, Denver E175 line holders are mostly getting minimum guarantee, but by next summer, most of the CRJ700s will be gone from Denver and E175s will be taking over those routes. The E175 might be short term pain for long term gain for a new hire right now.
