Good info, thanks EFB.
I have Thanksgiving as well as Dec 22nd-Jan 6th off with my current employer but will hit ATP mins late this month, so I'm trying to decide when I should make the switch. I guess I could always request a Jan class date but as you all know, seniority is everything.
I'm hoping for CRJ/PHX off the bat, could do CRJ/DEN where my home is as long as the commute isn't awful. Reading the thread it sounds like MSP/DTW is inevitable for a few months

They are not hiring part time pilots.
The idea was to allow a certain percentage of the senority list bid down below the current full time hourly requirement losing company paid benifets like the FAs do.
It was met with anger from guys who.....want to work less. Amazing I know.

It would be great for the company because highly paid senior guys would block less and be off benefits.
Mid and junior seniority peeps would take it in the shorts covering the flying dropped by the seniors.

Very hard to make this work in 121. Replace one full timer with two part timers and you now have to pay for recurrent for two instead of one. And labor groups usually take a dim view.

It's good now, and it was good back then but it can change really fast.

The proposal floated was a little more differentiated as it was supposed to create some part-time perma reserve.
The bigger issue with that is that it creates a C-scale to our already existing regional B-scale.
In addition, it would be a change to the current model and with it comes all sorts of unpredictability. Given Inc's history of exploiting loop holes nobody is willing to make a major bet on this idea that potentially serves only a small segment but could have some undetermined downside.
Regardless, I don't see part-time anywhere in the future ....

If the ****** hits the fan in this industry, and OO needs to furlough, they will visit part-time lines before going to furloughing. Outside that, I don't see it ever happening.

This would be a QOL windfall for a select few seniors...and it's a zero-sum game.

I tend to agree. Part time FA's is one thing, but if the company were to go wholesale for part-time pilots I think safety would suffer and the company knows it. There's a difference between highly trained and highly proficient professionals vs. highly trained but rusty professionals.

I also fly with the #2 CA in base (top 3%) and he only sometimes gets it...
It's like the magical mysterious medieval griffin. It's only slightly more real than this legendary fantasy called 'Drop Trip into Open Time' that I've heard of.

I dunno, from the guys I talk to, you have to be in the top 5-10% to ever have "Waive Minimum Default Credit" be awarded. I fly with a CA who bids 8% and he says he always bids that and bids a low TLCR, but almost never gets it.

I'm in a junior base and the junior bases are almost constantly understaffed so I'm sure that's part of the reason but 10% was the first time it ever allowed me to do it.
