Sorry, but that's a non-answer. I have yet to hear of a company with a bad training program. Everyone seems to think theirs is the best. Which is fine, great actually. But a bad one? Not so much.

One of my original hangups about going to to the 175 a couple years back was it not being AQP.
AQP was a Joke easy. If you are failing then you did absolutely NO studying for it. I was one of the first groups to go through. Gouge is from the 175 file on the EFB. Sat reserve most of the year prior too. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but it was basic and if you know anything about your aircraft or the release you pass.

When I went through AQP recurrent last year I wana say I was one of the first ones to go through and it was very straight forward, on the other hand I'm not sure how AQP as an initial would be. I can't imagine our instructors would sign people off that aren't ready, and iirc you get 2 loft sessions to prepare you for LOE. I'm really surprised to hear of this many failures because every facet of training on that plane was top notch from my time on it.

Yes, because I was a 6 hour drive outside of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia!

Man, they'll use any excuse they can think of, huh?

Any FAR violation stops an LOE ride, not saying this happened but that's what the friendly FAA guy told me when he "observed" one of my LOE's.
Having a FAA person in your jumpseat is going to be part of the job.

Well there we have it, the final and definitive answer. All airline training programs are great, nobody has anything to worry about.

This is pointless. CBA's can structure pay differently than normal state laws, this has been the case for a very long time and the battle over pre/post flight duties has been fought before. And no you don't need a union to have a CBA that applies to the entire work force.

The only caveat is typically that duty time/gross pay equals at least minimum wage over the long run. If you're not getting at least that, you can file a claim with the state labor board and they'll force the company to pay the difference. Some FO's used to do that when starting pay was $19/hour.
