Not a peep from SAPA. They're too busy doing...whatever it is they do.

So they are being bypassed and if they are actually given a class date, wouldn't their seniority mean that it doesn't matter how many new hires come on they would be moved above them when they transition over? Or is it just the fact that they are being told they have to wait is the problem? Better yet, why would they want to come over? It would just water down ther already low amount of flying the 175 guys are doing already

They would still be above them in seniority it's just now they have to wait and fly a guaranteed busy summer. QOL for those that don't want to fly is great on the 175, but I had to go in and put a credit Hi/Low in just so I can start actually flying again. I don't think new hires are being put on the plane anymore didn't a poster on here just say his April or May class was cancelled and he was given the option to take a CRJ class with no lock?

I believe that was me. They weren't real clear. Either the class was full or cancelled and their wouldn't be a possibility of getting in to another until end of June.

What is even more interesting is the fact that CA transitions are not being bypassed.

All I heard from SAPA for bypassing transitions is "operational need", i.e. we need people ready and qualified in the CRJ now and for the summer. The other argument is of course the number of training events and associated costs.

Transition from CRJ to ERJ
Backfill CRJ
--> two training events

New Hire into ERJ
No backfill
--> one training event

However, the same logic applies to ERJ CA. But it isn't applied there even though it would be much cheaper / disruptive to just upgrade into the ERJ.

There's plenty of 175 flying if you hold a line. The reason guys want to come over is because of the vastly better trip quality in the 175 and the lower block hour requirements.

A typical CRJ 4-day can involve 20 legs (my record is 23), crediting 18 hours. Given that CRJ guys are being required to fly 90 credit hours per month, some quick math shows that many CRJ guys are getting 11 days off with 90 hrs credit.

On the 175, a 4-day might involve 8 legs with 25 credit, with a requirement of 75 hrs/month. So you're working 12 days and off 18 days, while the RJ guy is doing just the opposite.

As my buddies on the 175 tell me, "It's like a totally different airline."

Again welcome to SKYW, where the policy manual is more of a guideline for the company and you can be terminated for not following it.
SAPA is, well, SAPA, they scurry around trying to look busy. But never manage to get anything done unless it benefits the company.....

Same thing happened when the CRJ came online, the EMB120 became the leper colony. SKYW is consistent.

Hey guys, have a class date coming up and I'm wondering what (if any) paper manuals SkyWest makes you carry on the CRJ. Just wondering because I'm looking at flight bag options to use when I'm on the line. Thanks!

Awesome, good to know. I know this has been asked elsewhere, but any recommendations for a good bag?
