Awesome, good to know. I know this has been asked elsewhere, but any recommendations for a good bag?

There's plenty of 175 flying if you hold a line. The reason guys want to come over is because of the vastly better trip quality in the 175 and the lower block hour requirements.

A typical CRJ 4-day can involve 20 legs (my record is 23), crediting 18 hours. Given that CRJ guys are being required to fly 90 credit hours per month, some quick math shows that many CRJ guys are getting 11 days off with 90 hrs credit.

On the 175, a 4-day might involve 8 legs with 25 credit, with a requirement of 75 hrs/month. So you're working 12 days and off 18 days, while the RJ guy is doing just the opposite.

As my buddies on the 175 tell me, "It's like a totally different airline."

If you hold a line is the key, because there are definitely not enough to go around. Can't scoff at QOL, but damn if it don't suck on the bottom haha

How much flying is typically available to a new hire? I'm currently in DFW but planing on moving to Chicago once I start. Is it realistic to assume that a new hire can get 90+ hours a month? That would certainly help live on FO pay. I'm still months out so obviously a lot can change, but I'm just trying to get a general idea on how things are going right now.

Depends on the equipment, if you're on the 175 I would count on minimum guarantee. In fact you should always budget as if you're on reserve. If its a option Id just slum it in a crashed for a few months, save some money or find a roommate or two, its def doable on the first year pay now especially if you get a sign on bonus .

They visit Tranny about every month or two recruiting to the new-hire CFIs down there. Envoy/ExpressJet/Transtates/GoJet all have reps that go during new-hires' first week as well.

Maybe someone else has further insight though....

Yea they visit every month to interview and talk to new Transpac instructors about Skywest but these visits are for a possible purchase of the company. Pretty interesting that Skywest would be getting into the flight training business. Be interested to see what the dynamic would be for Skywest.

It has been rumored for some time that an airline was buying TransPac.
My guess is it would be an 'Inc' purchase not an 'airlines' purchase.
That keeps the waters less muddy.

Being there are a few management pilots here at SkyWest that own flight schools I highly doubt they would be buying transpac...

It is. And it prepares you better for when you move on to a major airline.
