I'm not trying to be confrontational here but when I add incentive to the my posted trips it is to motivate my trip to be picked up for whatever reason. I value not flying that trip more than the money. If we did it your way other posted trips for nonmonitary reason may leave me holding the bag. Not only that but I would much rather pay my posted money than be beholden to a guy who picked up one of my trips once and now needs me to pick up his random trip. Please take my money.

I see your point. If there are two locals and one has some extra money on it, then obviously the one with extra money will be worth your time. Same as if there is some company open time at 130% vs a pilot posted trip, the 130% will be worth your time to come into work. I personally have never been able to pay money for someone to take my trip, but if the time off is worth that money, I don't see anything wrong with you offering. I just think it is messed up that we have created a culture where the severe understaffing of our airline has made it acceptable for us to pay money out of pocket to get time off for things we need. Personally, I will just call in after all avenues have been exhausted but I also don't have very much user time/vacation because of that.

My main point is that if you want to stay home and get paid while on displacement, enjoy the time off. If you want to pick up a trip over that same time and double dip, enjoy the extra cash. I would just hope that we would not take advantage of someone who may be in a situation where our POS PBS scheduled someone over a wedding or other important event and we would extort our own pilot group to help out.

I would rather say "The company doesn't feel QOL items like reserve re-write or satellite domiciles is worth their time. They also don't feel like putting the MRS at reasonable levels that are in the ballpark of what our actual reserve staffing is. Until they decide that this is an important item to discuss, we encourage all pilots that are looking to pick up extra flying to pickup the pilot posted pairings in Sched+ This will help the company determine what the actually staffing needs to be in our bases to run a safe and efficient airline." That would never happen because our current SAPA president would be scared of making himself "liable" but it would be a nice start. So instead I will simply say that personally I will not pick up any company posted open time or be available to help until the company decides to work with our group to have proper staffing in ALL of our bases. Almost 3 years of running bare bones on CRJ staffing has taken its toll on me.

I played ball at first when we were behind on hiring even though anyone with a tiny bit of foresight could have seen what 117's impact would be. But like you say, 3 years later we have 800 more pilots on the list and reserve staffing hasn't changed much. They pick up more and more flying, keep begging us to help out and the result is apathy...

I totally agree that staffing needs to be addressed. There needs to be a financial penalty or qol increase whenever a certain MRS/block hour ratio per base is violated.

Currently living in DFW. How much would I hate my life if I went to SkyWest and commuted to base?

My understanding is IAH might not be sticking around for too much longer. Any truth to that?

I'd just go to Envoy and live in base flying the E-175. You could also end up flowing to AA.

If begging means cramming as much flying as possible on your schedule via PBS and giving you no ability to drop or trade since everyone else is maxed out, then yes they are doing lots of begging. This flying should go into open time with the incentive of time and a half. SW is getting paid a premium for this extra flying they are picking up and forcing us to do at straight time. They are reducing apathy by sending more threatening emails.

There were some who tried to warn that the MRS would do nothing for reserve levels and that we needed stronger language in our last pay package. The one that the company needed to pass so they could raise first year pay to keep up with hiring? I'm sure they will take care of us next go round. Oh and the reserve re-write is just around the corner as well.

We have the "vocal minority" talking about QOL items at GoJet on the SAPA forums. SGU will not realize the contempt they have built in the pilot group until it's too late.

That's my plan as of now. Exploring all options though. Especially since I'm a current 135 guy and both will dish out some signing bonus money for me.

There's a quite a few guys in DFW working for SKW. It's pretty easy to commute out of. But yeah. I'd go for Envoy, Mesa, or ExpressJet, all of which have bases there.
