Thanks. I assume the CBTs will not work on the Surface we will be issued? Or are those distributed further down the line?

They work on the surface, they should be received in class from what Ive heard.

Thanks Squallrider!

The Surface is issued during the first couple days of training. Honestly though you may want to consider getting those CBTs done before you arrive.

How do you get your hands on them?

So much truth to this post^^

That was a good week, great when things work out. Unfortunately most times I get reassigned to some garbage local or standup outside of the 72 hours.

Not making any assumptions but hopefully you didn't take the extra cash from the pilot trying to get the time off. If you were already getting the 27 hours and could now make it a 51 hour 4 day trip, would you really need the extra $400 from someone that obviously needed time off? If I am able to help someone out, I usually just say that I will hit them up down the road if I need help. Or I just do it and hope that I am building some good karma for later. I have never understood why people offer money on top of trips and I have never understood why someone would take money to help out.

I had someone that was waiting on CA IOE pick up a 4 day from me. This was last summer when we were absolutely slammed and I had been awarded 96 hours. When they picked up the trip I was able to do a little getaway with the spouse and recharge. While it was financially beneficial to the future CA, it helped me out more than he would know. Again, just me personally, but if I am picking up any extra flying, it is not the dark blue or red kind. Light blue and green is all we should be picking up in any month that starts out already under minimum reserves. YMMV

Completely agree. Wish more people understood and embraced this philosophy.

However, under the right circumstances I can't refuse a good 150% JRM trip.

If someone had a 2 hour turn and they offered a little money to make it worth someones while to come in then I could understand the extra money. Or if their posted trip is competing with another trip of higher credit.

You're welcome, enjoy class.

It should be noted that there are quite a lot of CBTs for the 175 ground, at first it will seem overwhelming (theres something like 20+), some are long some are short, but you don't have to know them verbatim, have a basic understanding, they will fill in the gaps in class. The CBTs are there to prevent you feeling like you got hit with a firehose and if you have a understanding of them it will give you more time in class to practice flows/callouts. Anything you can do in class to have more time to practice for sim the better your sim sessions will go.

EFB also has the flows/call out presentation on the training side. Helps a lot with the flows

Or we could push to get a higher trip rig so when the company builds these 3 hour sits (in our current domiciles) that the trip is worth more. Nothing is better than having a couple 10-11 hour duty days with 10.5 hour overnights because you spent almost 4 hours sitting around in DTW, or doing a quick RT only to sit at your base for 3 hours before the next leg. But it did cost the company $8 so they probably will think twice about scheduling that again.

I understand why someone would see the need, but I still won't take money from someone because they need time off. Since the company obviously won't take care of us and value the need for schedule flexibility, we should take care of each other. We obviously don't have any form of pilot leadership that will help us identify where we can help each other out, so we will have to do it individually.
