Furlough or concession. The question previously posed is interesting. "When was the last time a concession saved the company from a furlough?"
As someone who will be furloughed if the company goes that route, then do it. Look at how much money the company would save by furloughing 10%, 20%, and 30% of the pilots. If the amount saved on concession is going to keep the company running, then they have some serious financial revenue issues that a furlough is also imminent.
Nobody should want to take a pay cut, still get furloughed, and come back to that same pay cut.
Let the company continue its proud tradition of no furloughs based on no concessions.

It's like the housing market takes a 15% dip, the guy in Cali sitting on a $1million ranch home that has to liquidate eats $150K loss, the guy in OK who was in the same house that was selling for $200K only sees a $30K decline.

That $hit needs to be nipped in the bud preemptively if we’re looking at furloughs. Whatever it takes, people needed to be outright shamed into not picking up open time while we have pilots out on furlough. Despicable behavior.....

I’m pretty junior and I’d rather be furloughed and come back to Better rates. We are behind other carriers already. I personally hope they give a good early out option, I imagine 500 off the top can probably equate to 1000 or more at the bottom being saved and helping with the upgrade times that’ll balloon up from this.

I’m not signing in to that forum ever again...

Completely agree. This group has never dealt with a furlough before so it is fair to say that there will be pilots who dont draw the connection between picking up open time and how that affects pilots who are on furlough --- but there needs to be some education happening between now and October. Big time!

Yep. I bailed on that forum a while back. Most depressing reading I've ever done.

We will NEVER have a 100% participation rate but still need to do all that’s possible to make such behavior exceedingly frowned upon by our fellow pilots.
Do not expect SWAPA to contribute to that at all as that kind of mandate would obviously involve potential legal risk to our union. It needs to come from a grassroots effort from the pilot group to paint voluntary open time pick up with folks out on furlough as behavior akin to scabbing.
This talk is premature anyway, but perhaps the seed needs to be planted in people’s minds now. As Zap mentioned, this is uncharted territory (should a reduction of staff happen) for many within our ranks.
